Her father said that he can have Iztacchuatl as a wife if he goes out in battle and comes back victorious. Popocatpetl goes to battle, but the father told Iztacchuatl that he died in battle. Depressed by this discovery she dies. Popocatpetl was victorious but comes back to find Iztacchuatl dead, so he does suicide.
