An upcoming educational institution uses more than 5000 KWH of electricity and 0.8 million litres of water on a daily basis. With an objective to ensure that the natural resources are utilized responsibly, the concept of ‘Eco – campuses’ or ‘Green campuses’ have emerged to promote environmental sustainability within the school campuses. So, what are the features of an Eco – friendly School? Primarily, the building must be a Green School Building. This doesn’t essentially mean that it needs to have mud finish walls with thatched roof, but should have good indoor quality using non-toxic paint options. Proper energy conservation by using natural lights in classrooms and solar panels are recommended. Rain water harvesting and water conservation through management of water usage in toilets, drinking area, gardens and playground is a major focus area. Green School must have a green campus not only by growing and nurturing plants for a green environment but also by minimizing the usage of materials like polythene bags and other non-bio-degradable material. An allied activity is proper management of the solid waste by segregating, recycling, reusing and disposing in correct manner. A social responsibility of a Green School must also be working hand in hand with the neighbouring community for greener surroundings. At our Techno India Group Public School campuses, we have already initiated energy audit and environmental audit. We have strategically selected most of our campuses in picturesque locations and green surroundings. Leveraging on this natural advantage, our next endeavour is to gradually make all our schools ‘Eco – campuses’ so that along with superior academics, sports and other co-curricular facilities, Techno India Group Public Schools also ensure a better and greener environment to shape up a healthier generation.
