PRESIDENT’S REPORT We are pleased to report that 2018 was year of increasing traction and a re-imagining of the vision and structure of our organization. We have continued to fulfill our mission to promote the preservation and appreciation of Simcoe County’s history and heritage, and creating forums wherein our history can be shared. We challenged ourselves to meet with as many of our member groups as possible this past year to learn about each other and our common bonds of local history. Highlights from 2018 included:

Our members and guests enjoyed 4 riveting talks as part of our popular Speaker Series

Monthly historical articles written by SCHA were published in the Simcoe Review

We once again sponsored 5 Awards of Excellence at the Simcoe County Museum’s History Fair for elementary schools across the county

We issued 4 seasonal newsletters and multiple eNewsletters to keep our members informed

Our membership has remained constant, with some incremental growth.

We welcomed the Barrie Historical Association members into our organization as it closed its doors.

We sponsored local historical initiatives such as 200 Years of Music and a presentation on the history of Les Bertram and Sons

We continue to improve our expense management to reduce costs, find efficiencies and maintain a healthy financial view for the SCHA

We continue to develop a strong community profile and awareness through our digital platforms and social media efforts.

We successful were awarded a HODG and small grant from Heritage Barrie to help fund our projects and initiatives.

Through all the work we do, we are reminded of the importance of preserving and telling the story of Simcoe County’s history – something we all have a part of. Looking ahead, our discussions with community partners to collaborate and integrate our efforts is continuing. We seek to find tools and initiatives that fulfill our common interest in the history of Simcoe County, its people and stories and we welcome all who share this vision. Thank You for supporting the SIMCOE COUNTY HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION in its quest to preserve our History. Ted Duncan,

Board of Directors, President and Chair Simcoe County Historical Association
