Similar product analysis #2 Here I have featured a screenshot from the song ‘Firestone’ by ‘Kygo’ for my second similar product analysis. Kygo produce a genre of music that is a mix between Dance and Relax, however the fact that they produce dance music that is more calm and tame is what related them to my chosen artist ‘Fred V & Grafix. Opening scene The first shot I notice is a medium close up of two people who I assume to be in a relationship due to the fact they are kissing, this shot is used at the start so the viewer latches on the emotion they create. It also tells us who the lyrics are describing. This is very inspirational to me because during my video I want to create a sad emotion that a girlfriend has passed away and I can show facial expressions through this shot to help display the story.

Similar product analysis #2

Here I have featured a screenshot from the song ‘Firestone’ by ‘Kygo’ for my second similar product analysis. Kygo produce a genre of music that is a mix between Dance and Relax, however the fact that they produce dance music that is more calm and tame is what related them to my chosen artist ‘Fred V & Grafix.

Opening scene

The first shot I notice is a medium close up of two people who I assume to be in a relationship due to the fact they are kissing, this shot is used at the start so the viewer latches on the emotion they create. It also tells us who the lyrics are describing. This is very inspirational to me because during my video I want to create a sad emotion that a girlfriend has passed away and I can show facial expressions through this shot to help display the story.

Relation of the visuals to the song

This music video also supports Goodwin’s theory 2 that music relates to the visuals. This is evident because the lyrics read “I’m the flame, you’re the fire” this relates to the visuals as we are shown a couple who need each other like a

fire needs a flame, this emphasises how important they are to each other and links the audio to visuals very well. This is something I must consider when making my music video because if the audio doesn’t relate to the visuals I won’t be able to tell the story I am trying to.

The star image

The stars of this music video are the male and female previously mentioned, neither of them are displayed names however as viewers we want them to get together through the theme of love. The most obvious way you can tell they are the star images is because they are present throughout the whole video but also because in this screenshot above we can see they are in a large festival crowd of people however they do not blend in at all because the camera is centred and follows their movement remaining focused on their actions. This prioritises them as the ‘main characters’. They are both presented as young lovers who are both very well kept and dress clean.

Technical aspects

Cinematography – The cinematography in this video is very stereotypical to a cringey love story, it features lots of close ups of kissing and a lot of slow motion sweeps creating emotion. An example of this is the screen shot below which pans around his showing his longingness for the girl and how without her he will depressed.

The shots are of a normal tempo and feature no sharp cuts I think this helps set the scene because if the shots where sharp and quick it would make a chaotic looking scene.

Overall I do like this music video because it looks very well thought out with the concept of looking through doors into wonderland themes still relates to a relationship. However, a lot of the footage is very similar to any other love song which means it lacks uniqueness for a unique genre. I personally find it a bit boring and cheesy at sometimes however overall portrays the theme well.
