FORESTRY

Simpcw Resources LLP has completed a

draft of the Fuel Reduction for the Chu

Chua area for Fuel Management Program.

Timing & Size: The Fuel Reduction is likely

start in late October and Finish early

December, the treatment area is proposed as

10.0 ha.

Description: Reduce Fuel loading in

proximity to interface areas (Homes,

structures and property) and therefore

reduce surface fire potential and severity.

This will be accomplished by reducing

understory ladder fuels and downed and

dead trees and reduction of hazardous fuel

loads. It will encourage an increase in the

deciduous component of the stands to

reduce crown-fire potential.

We will manually cut/brush (layers 2, 3, 4),

and prune residual trees and treat and /or

remove resulting slash so that it presents no

surface fire hazard, and no ladder

fuels/structures remain to initiate a crown

fire. Mature live trees will not be removed,

only pruned as required, and we will

remove hazard through burning the debris

piles.

Purpose: To modify the existing Interface

Priority Zone fuels and forest structure to

reduce the fire hazards surrounding the

existing interface areas – homes, structures

and property established on the Simpcw

First Nation.IR #2 East of Dunn Lake Road

at the SFN Band Office and School.

Attached is the map for the proposed area

of works at Chu Chua for Fuel Reduction.
