CUSTOMER DESCRIPTION The customer is an American pharmaceutical company and operates in more than 60 countries globally. It is currently one of the world's seven largest pharmaceutical companies by market capitalization and revenue. In 2012, the company received the Facility of the Year Award in the Facility Integration category for its Vaccine Bulk Manufacturing Facility (VBF) Program of Projects in Durham, North Carolina, USA. HCL SOLUTION

HCL partnered with the customer on the Application Portfolio Assessment program designed to reduce their overall IT maintenance costs with a focus on consolidating and re-engineering IT systems.

HCL conducted the exercise in two phases for 10 Latin American (LATAM) countries through its proprietary ExACt methodology.

The solution is enabled via an automated web-based tool called Prizm®. The approach is elaborated below.

BUSINESS BENEFITS

The key benefits that the customer could achieve with the help of HCL advisory services were recommendations for consolidation, migration and modernization. HCL enabled the following:

• 22 applications identified for direct replacement due to overlapping functionalities

• 17 critical applications identified for UI Upgrade

• Important opportunities identified: 35 applications for Oracle version consolidation, 27 applications for SQL Server version consolidation and 57 applications for OS version consolidation (Windows-based applications)

• Functionality enhancements for 16 applications

• Data recovery and back-up, technical support and knowledge management areas identified as the key concern areas in the client’s LATAM portfolio

• Visibility into end-of-life risks

- 16 applications were out of database vendor support

- 16 applications were out of infrastructure vendor support

- 26 applications were out of OS vendor support
