Description:
SIMWARE RTI is our new HLA 1516 compliant RTI fully based on the OMG DDS standard and has been successfully implemented in different simulation systems, connecting legacy simulators and third-party COTS like VBS2, VR-Forces and STAGE. SIMWARE RTI has arrived to add more value to the SIMWARE user’s base offering an HLA Run Time Infrastructure that runs over DDS networks while keeping compliance with HLA. Simware RTI allows an easier convergence of HLA simulations into the open wire simulation protocol defined in the new SISO LSA standard. Simware RTI expands the customer base for HLA, targeting applications in which a fine management of data exchange and their QoS is needed, like for example in hardware-in-the-loop simulations or federations over WANs. Right now, our RTI is in use by prestigious universities, research centers and private and public companies worldwide. Still wondering why? Then this webinar is good for you. This live webinar will show you in just 45 minutes what SIMWARE RTI is and what it is intended for with a brief walkthrough on the product. So we will talk either from the technical side as the business side. This webinar will be presented by Mr. José Ramón Martínez, Presales Manager at NADS. Technical presentation will be in English.

Reservados todos los derechos / All Rights Reserved HLA rationale HLA was created as an answer to DIS limitations and an evolution of it Common data model Any time representation Net is used under demand and a bare minimum Requirement DIS HLA Create a distributed simulation, allow systems to join Limited Yes Support publish and subscribe information management No. Must support either multicast, broadcast, or unicast packets Dynamic Transport Type Best effort Best effort and reliable Support multiple message types Limited Supports interactions and state updates 9. Confidential 9 NEXTEL AEROSPACE DEFENCE & SECURITY S.L., 2014. Reservados todos los derechos / All Rights Reserved But DIS is still in use DIS was retired in favour of HLA in 1998 Hasnt been NATO standard since 2010 But is still evolving: DIS 7 Still one the most used standard 10. Confidential 10 NEXTEL AEROSPACE DEFENCE & SECURITY S.L., 2014. Reservados todos los derechos / All Rights Reserved Why is DIS still in use? Simplicity and Flexibility: Data model distribution Fault tolerance HLA is used for standalone and distributed locally But in distributed simulation over wide areas DMO uses DIS for real distribution HLA is used only in experiments/experiences 11. How to evolve HLA: keeping it as is 12. Comparison of DDS and HLA standards [Source 12F-SIW-027] Very useful for simulation Useful for data interoperability Useful for modularity Simulation specific services Useful for live simulation 13. Confidential 13 NEXTEL AEROSPACE DEFENCE & SECURITY S.L., 2014. Reservados todos los derechos / All Rights Reserved Two approaches to DDS vs HLA HLA has simulation services DDS has features for real time communication Change HLA by DDS SimWare Framework Use DDS as HLA RTI SimWare RTI 14. Reservados todos los derechos / All Rights Reserved Started in 2011 HLA Run Time Infrastructure designed for real time performance in large federations IEEE 1516 HLA API for virtual and live simulations Use DDS for Data Distribution: functionality of an HLA RTI with the features, performance, power and reliability of OMG DDS standard Full HLA services support as required in virtual & live simulations SimWare RTI : The first RTI to join DDS with HLA RTI 15. Confidential 15 NEXTEL AEROSPACE DEFENCE & SECURITY S.L., 2014. Reservados todos los derechos / All Rights Reserved SimWare RTI rationale Our HLA implementation is different in just one little thing: we use DDS for the communication layer COMMUNICATION LAYER HLA SERVICES&API 16. Confidential 16 NEXTEL AEROSPACE DEFENCE & SECURITY S.L., 2014. Reservados todos los derechos / All Rights Reserved The reasons I: Use of communication HLA is good in local and small scenarios But is not so good in distribution and heterogeneous nets It tries to use net as less as possible: e.g. Can update under demand DDS is a pure communication standard Communication is running all the time DDS layer keeps communication going Communication is transparent to user 17. Confidential 17 NEXTEL AEROSPACE DEFENCE & SECURITY S.L., 2014. Reservados todos los derechos / All Rights Reserved The reasons II : Use of QoS HLA simply can not control if data are properly delivered You can decide some properties No guarantee DDS is a centered in guaranteeing data delivery QoS referred to local resources QoS that affect side to side communication: Control of data distribution 18. Peering inside QoS Spatial control of data How data are delivered Reliable / best effort, order, redundancy ... Time control of data Temporal determinism Latency Prioritization ... Data availability How long data are available on the system. History, durability, etc ... Resource Control Resources are limited Performance differences btw systems Some QoS are applied per instance, others are general 19. Changing QoS You can change general QoS for the entire communication domain You can change QoS for the publishers and subscribers Changing QoS just by changing XML files 20. Confidential 20 NEXTEL AEROSPACE DEFENCE & SECURITY S.L., 2014. Reservados todos los derechos / All Rights Reserved The reasons III : Ad hoc solutions vs. standards HLA uses solutions for LAN requisites Each vendor has its methods Solutions are particular and difficult to generalize DDS is a standard Can be as good as ad hoc solutions Is much better in complex scenarios 21. Confidential 21 NEXTEL AEROSPACE DEFENCE & SECURITY S.L., 2014. Reservados todos los derechos / All Rights Reserved The reasons IV: DDS is open [DDSI] One of the drawbacks of traditional HLA approaches is that each vendor cannot communicate with the rest (ok, by using gateways!) DDS uses DDSI for interoperation between every vendor 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 22. Confidential 22 NEXTEL AEROSPACE DEFENCE & SECURITY S.L., 2014. Reservados todos los derechos / All Rights Reserved The reasons V: Used in action SimWare RTI has been used for connecting HLA COTS like VRForces, VBS2 and Stage Every kind of net has been used: LAN, WIFI, WAN We can use any medium where TCP-IP is available: e.g. WebSockets in browsers, Android, etc. 23. Use case 24. Confidential 24 NEXTEL AEROSPACE DEFENCE & SECURITY S.L., 2014. Reservados todos los derechos / All Rights Reserved Real case I: Rome to Madrid We use SimWare RTI in our connection between Rome and Madrid: 1300 km as the crow flies Problems to solve were related with QoS, not with code For each instance: Deciding reliability and persistence For the entire connection: Setting general QoS in terms of Resolution, Partitions, Retries, etc. 25. Confidential 25 NEXTEL AEROSPACE DEFENCE & SECURITY S.L., 2014. Reservados todos los derechos / All Rights Reserved Real case II: Rome to Madrid Two phases connection Over Public networks Latency changed wildly: 400-1200 ms QoS was established and RTI reached It was difficult to guarantee one configuration valid for all latencies Over dedicated VPN Latency was more stable QoS were set and RTI reached SAME SimWare RTI, SAME federates connecting, ONLY QoS changed 26.
