The wheel(s) should be lubricated with light weight oilafter using water based paintor for extended storage. Place a drop on either side of

the wheel and turn.

If the plunger seal isdamaged and needsreplacing, simplyremove the outer nutand washer at theend of the plunger

and replace with new seal, and re-assemble. Adjust the plunger for asmooth friction fit by gently tighten-ing the nuts, which expand the plungerseal. Should the wheel head become looseon the paint barrel, the adjusting tabcan be slightly expandedfor an optimum (tighter)fit.

With proper care, yourBeugler striping tool willprovide you with years ofexcellent performance.

To load the Beugler striping tool remove the wheel head by

firmly pulling it off. Pull the plunger backallowing space for your paint. Most paintcan be used directly from the can if ithas a creamy consistency.

27

LUBRICATION & MAINTENANCE LOADING THE TOOL

Before loading your tool with paint, make sure the wheel turns freely and the

plunger moves in the barrel with asmooth friction fit.

02:2839:20 Once you have filled the tool

with the appropriate amountof paint, replace the wheelhead by pressing it firmlyonto the paint barrel. Be sureto align the wheel head with the guide bar on top.

Hold the tool vertically and gently expel the air in the

barrel and lift the paint to the wheel bypressing the plunger upward until yousee a small bead of paint at thewheel. Remember, the wheel rotatesto pick up paint in its serrations.Wipe off any excess paint beforestriping.

Now you’re ready to stripe. Usingenough downward pressure forthe wheel to roll, begin striping.

You’ll find the Beuglertool will stripe every-thing with ease.

The Beugler tool shouldonly be used with the

wheel rotating in this direction.

Clean up is easy: Simply pull back onthe plunger and remove the wheel head.

Push the remaining paint out using theplunger. Remove the plunger andclean with solvent, or water for waterbased paints. There is no needto submerge the entire tool insolvent.

Push a swab soaked with solvent through the paint barrel.

Press it through using theend of the plunger. Cleanthe wheel and head thoroughlywith the brush, removing allpaint residue. 265

CLEAN UP

Flush thoroughly with thinner by spinning thewheel until the thinner is completely clear.

Reversing the direction results inpaint build up at the base of the

wheel. If this should happen wipe clean.

Custom guide arms can easily be made and fit just like yourstandard guide arm.

Using exactly 1/8” (3.2 mm) metal wireor rod, bend an angle on one end. Then, cut to the desired length.

Bend the other end appropriate to theproject’s edge that you’re striping. Longguide arms must be used with bothhands.

To change the stripe size while

using the same color: Hold the tool

vertically. Pull downon the plunger.

Remove the wheelhead. Replace withdesired wheel head andalign. Lift paint level backto wheel by pressing upon plunger.

Before striping,prime the tool

with a couple of shortstrokes, which coats thewheel with wet paint.

Place the wheel down firmly and pull, rolling the stripe on your surface.

With a twist of the wrist a curving, evenline can easily be applied.

25 6

CUSTOM GUIDE ARMS CHANGING STRIPE SIZE If you tilt the tool from flat positionto its edge you will achieve atapered line either straight orcurved. Lifting at the endof this stroke produces apointed tip.

The speed that you pull the tool orchanges in the speed have no effect onthe stripe size. Even shaking the tool willnot produce a drip. Only when the wheelrotates on a surface will paint be distributed.

Always keep the wheelflat to the surface

for an even line width.

Holding the Beugler tool like a pen may limit

control and versatility.

The most common grip is muchlike a utility knife where fingers are to theside, opposite the thumb or with the indexfinger on top, much like a glass cutter.Keep your wrist loose for smooth curves.

Holding the tool more vertically will allow for tighter turns. With the tool almost parallel to the surface, straight lines areeasily achieved even without a straight edge.

Using Quick-Drying Paint:If your project requires water-basedacrylic paint remember to keep the toolcovered with a wet cloth when not inuse to prevent paint from drying on thewheel.

This is particularly important with anyquick-drying paint, as it will clog thewheel’s serrations and produce unevenstriping.

Touching up: If a break occurs at thebeginning of your line, remember to wet the wheel witha couple of strokes immediatelybefore starting your stripe. Orcorrect by touching up with the corner of the wheel or a small brush.

Removing Old Striping:Use a hairdryer to soften the vinyl striping and adhesive. Old paintedstripes can also be removed using theappropriate solvent.

If there’s a secret to learning freehand striping, it’s simply

to practice the five basics first, thencombine them for your designs.

Flames:To create flames repeat the pattern ofcurve, taper, tip, curve, taper, tip overand over again. Starting with a curvepulled away from you, ending with ataper, make a tip by pulling the toolback, from edge of wheel to wheel flaton the surface, and continue with acurve.

Flames can bea dynamicgraphic elementas well as agreat learningexercise.

The weight, size and balance of TheBeugler Striper allows for superior control and precise detail. By simplyrotating the wrist or twisting your fingersyou can obtain a variety ofpaintingeffects.

Many types of paints, inks and even glueswork well in the Beugler striping tool.

Most brands of signpainter’s enamel workvery well right out of the can.

Oil and water based artmediums are ideal.

Most modeler’spaints work verywell but avoid thinwatery mediums.

Conventional house paint can be usedfor interior and exterior decorating anddetailing. Even some decorator enamelsand automotive paint may be used.

The Beugler striping tool has becomethe state-of-the-art for pinstriping, but many artists use the striperas they would any art tool.

Since the Beugler Striper canapply paint on demand, in anyposition and on any surface, it is perfectfor many fine art applications.

Here Bob Reid uses the Beugler tool tohelp create details in a mural in theMuseum of Natural History in Los Angeles.

You can clearly see that theBeugler tool can be an extensionof artistic expression, expandingcreativity to a new level.

One method for followinga guide line or for outliningis to turn the tool around andhold it in a vertical position, pushing the tool away from youusing the wheel or wheel headas a sight.

Direction can be con-trolled by simply twistingthe tool with your finger-tips. Be sure to hold thetool in a vertical position

to the surface to maintain line width. Guide lines can be helpful for accuratework. Use a “Stabilo” marking pencil toestablish your guide line.

There are two recommended techniquesfor following your guide line:

First, hold the tool parallel to the surfaceand pull next to the guide line.

Second, use the verticalgrip and push on theline using the wheel asa sight.

Before striping, get into a positionwhere you can see the wheel

making contact with the surface of the car.

Use your other hand to keep your bal-ance. As you move from front toback be sure to remember to walkbackward smoothly, in a continuousmotion, with a toe-heel step, one foot

behind the other. Do not shuffle andkeep your painting arm extended. Withvery little effort you’ll be striping with pro-fessional results. If you have a secondmagnetic guide you can proceed to theother side of the car without delay.

TO MAKE A PARALLEL SECONDSTRIPE THAT STARTS AT A POINT:

1) Re-adjust the guide arm for the sec-ond stripe.2) Place the guide arm in the magneticguide track.3) Slide the end of the magnetic guide

Your Beugler Striper comes with variousadjustable guide arms that will help youeffortlessly paint parallel to any existingedge.

As you pull the striper, be sure to keepthe guide touching the edge for a precise parallel lineto that edge.

Simply adjust theguide arm to the

distance youwant to stripefrom the edge.A thumb screwlocated on top ofthe tool securesthe guide when in position.

Be sure to hold the tool parallel to theedge you’re following. Loosen thethumb screw and re-adjust and securethe guide arm for an additional parallel line. 19 12

USING GUIDE ARMS Thumb Screw

Keep your arm extended infront of you.

This will keep the tool parallelto the magnetic guide.

Wheels and rims are easily painted by rotating them while keep-

ing the Beugler tool with guide in a set position.

Masking tape atthe beginning

and end of theline help

ensure a clean end to the line, or simplystop and lift the tool for a clean, roundedend. Or tilt the toolto one side or theother for a taperedend. To precisely deter-mine the location oftapered or squareendings, it is sug-gested that you uselow profile tape at either an angle fortapered ends or right angle for squareends. Simply run the tool over the tapeand gently lift tape from your surface

An alternate way to align the magneticguide is to simply lay it on the side of thecar from one end to the other, sliding aruler along top and bottom, sightingdown the magnetic guide asyou go.

When using the guide armbe sure to put pressure on the paintwheel, not the guide arm, as this cantend to lift thewheel slightly fromthe surface.Instead, lift the

guide with a slight twist allowing thewheel to make flat contact with the sur-face to be painted.

When using the edge rather than thetrack of the magnetic guide it’s a goodidea to use your finger under the edgeopposite the guide arm to prevent themagnetic guide frommoving. If the guidearm comes in contactwith the car’s surfacewrap it with maskingtape.

13

Guide arms are designed to be usedon either side of the tool.

To keep the Beuglertool flat, let your lit-tle finger lightlyslide along as youmove across thesurface with the

index finger holding the wheel in contactwith the surface. Again, a small piece ofmasking tape can ensure a perfect flatedge to the end of your line.Narrow masking tape is more suitablefor a reference line when striping tightcurves. With little effort you can shape

your tape into any reference line... thenfollow the path with the Beugler tool.Remember to keep your body in themost comfortable position to avoid strain-ing. The Beugler tool will execute a con-sistent line weight regardless of thespeed at which you stripe, so relax andenjoy.

For perfect striping on cars, trucks or anysteel surface use Beugler’s flexibleMagnetic Guide. This will guide your tooland assist you in painting flawlessstraight lines or long smooth curves.

Prior to striping a vehicle, make sureyou have your: • Beugler striping tool• Lettering enamel paint• Magnetic guide• Masking tapes • Clean- up rags or tissue• Thinner• Wax &
