IntroductionSEDF has launched BMR scheme for ailing Rice Husking Mills incollaboration with State Bank of Pakistan and Participating FinancialInstitutions (PFIs).
About 800 Rice Husking Units established in the 1960s and 70s; Now out-dated/obsolete technology with operational losses as high as 40%.
SEDF’s objectiveTo modernize and restructure Rice Husking Units throughout Sindh.
IncentiveThe scheme entails 30% Credit Guarantee and subsidy of 4.75% onrefinance rate. The applicant to pay bank spread which is 2.75%.

A pilot collection center, established by National Foods, has started its operations. This centerhas a testing lab (comprising of moisture analyzer to determine moisture levels, analyticalbalance for weighing, Butyro refractive meter to determine BR colour value, Soxhlet extractorto conduct non-volatile ether extract, Elisa technique to determine aflotoxin) and storage.
The collection center aims to attract/purchase good quality chilli from farmers. Farmers willget a premium on good quality chilli and instant payment (they are cash-poor under thecurrent mandi system).
With collection center and testing lab, Food processors will get good quality chilli directly fromfarmers and whereas farmers would get the benefit in terms of financial assistance on theirbank loan as well as selling directly to the food processors at collection center.

Having this kind of project in Sindh will encourage cultivation of maize in the provinceproviding greater opportunities to local farmers by adding another cash crop as an option.
Pakistan maize is non GMO product as it is not Genetically modified. This also mean thatPakistan maize has better nutrient values than maize of other region.

The project includes de-linting Machine which is first of its kind in the Sindh and will provideraw material for Chemi Viscose Fiber plant in Benazirabad (presently shut due to non-availability of raw material )
The Company is installing high tech delinting plant, to produce cotton linter. Conventionally,the cottonseed is just crushed as it is, resulting in wastage of linter in the oil cake. Delinted oilcake will have high percent of protein as compared to non delinted oil cake.
