It is evident that an integral component for educating students today is to provide them with the skills necessary to become responsible members of our school and wider community. Academic excellence for the adolescent learner, fostering responsible citizens in a safe, caring environment. Sir Ernest MacMillan Senior P. S. is a triple track school, providing academic excellence in the regular program as well as extended French and French immersion programs. We are committed to promoting academic excellence for the adolescent learner and fostering socially responsible citizens in a safe and caring environment. Our exceptional staff strive to offer a wide variety of rich learning experiences that reaches a diverse student population. Character Education Character Education continues to be a focus for our school. We promote social awareness and responsible citizenship through various school wide initiatives such as Adopt a Village, Food Bank Donations, and Christmas Hampers. Monthly Character Ed Assemblies are held to recognize and honour students who demonstrate character traits such as respect, responsibility, empathy, kindness and caring, teamwork, fairness, honesty, cooperation, integrity and perseverance. In addition to individual recognitions, one class is also designated as the "Top Note Class" for the month for their outstanding efforts in Character Education.

Code of Behavour and UniformsThe staff, students and Parent Council have collaborativelydeveloped MacMillan's Code of Behaviour.  Our Code of Behaviourincludes the wearing of a school uniform for all students. All of ourschool policies are available on our school Homepage.

Co-curricular ActivitiesAt MacMillan, a wide range of co-curricular activities are providedfor the students. Our programs are divided into the 4 A's(Academics, Arts, Athletics and Attitude).  We offer over 40 differentco-curricular clubs, teams, and student organizations to enrichstudent learning and to encourage students to get involved inschool life.  

Guidance and Counselling ServicesOur Guidance programs provide students with clear 'pathways'options.  Through monthly assemblies, individualized counselling,Career Fairs, and the integration of the Essential Skills into thecurriculum, students become well informed.  

A Little More About Our School Sir Ernest MacMillan Senior Public School opened in September1978. The school received its name from one of the most influentialCanadian musicians, Ernest Alexander Campbell MacMillan. SirErnest MacMillan was a renowned Canadian composer andconductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and MendelssohnChoir.

What Sets Us Apart

Sir Ernest MacMillan Sr. P. S. is a vibrant and diverseschool.  Aside from the rich academic programs, weoffer Early and Late Extended French as well as FrenchImmersion programs.  MacMillan has high academicstandards for all students and we encourage to them toreach their personal potential through the 4A's (Academics,Arts, Athletics, and Attitude) co-curricular options.  We have a Caring Adult Program in place where we track,monitor and support our at-risk students who are achievingbelow provincial standards.  MacMillan also offersindividualized Home School and Special Educationprograms, including access to a state-of-the-art LanguageLab.  As well, we offer daily homework assistance(Homework Club) after school in the library from 3:00 to 4:00pm. Monday to Thursday for all students.  They have accessto the computer lab, the library, and to teachers during thisself-directed learning time.

Parent and Community Engagement

If we are to successfully meet the challenges of the next decade, theparents, students, staff and community must work together. TheMacMillan School Council meets regularly to review school plansand to collaborate on future initiatives.  Currently, our Councilmembers are actively involved in the planning and implementation ofour fundraising initiatives.  Whether you become a member ofour School Council or not, all parents are encouraged to getinvolved in the life of our school.

Imagine a TDSB where all schools share a common core set of characteristics. They arecommunity-driven and focused on teaching and learning. Students and parents have a wide variety ofopportunities and there are enough students in every school to increase program choices. Imagine there is a clear focus on achieving student success and every student is engaged, has a voice,access to a caring adult and the opportunity to develop their full potential. Here at the TDSB our focus is on student achievement, parent and community engagement and financialstability.
