PERIMETER INTRUSION DETECTION SYSTEMS

Perimeter intrusion detection systems are conceived to detect unauthorized access long before an intruder has entered the protected area. The advantage is twofold: on the one hand, these systems represent an important deterrent factor, discouraging the majority of intrusion attempts in the bud; on the other hand, they give peolple more time to undertake the necessary defensive actions.Protecting the perimeter of a property requires prompt, accurate and reliable detection systems. To achieve this aim, DEA Security has designed sophisticated and innovative intrusion technologies, which are patented at internation level.

DEA Security ’s R&D activity has always been focused on designing high-quality intrusion detection systems for the protection of perimeters of any size in military, industrial, commercial and residential projects. This commitment together with the extensive experience in the outdoor security market have led to the creation of a wide range of products with high-level performance and reliability:

• SERIR, perimeter intrusion detection system for soft metal fences and semi-rigid panels; • TORSUS, perimeter intrusion detection system for rigid metal fences; • SISMA CP 50, buried intrusion detection system; • SISMA CA, intrusion detection system for concrete flooring;• SISMA CA PF, intrusion detection system for raised floors;• DEA NET, centralization system; • DEA MAP, supervision and control system.

DEA Security has also designed a complete range of sensors for the protection of doors, windows, gratings, glazed doors/windows, walls and safes:

• SERIE A03, seismic detectors and relevant processing boards;• SERIE SPC/SPR, seismic detectors with built-in analysis units.

chapter

SISMA CA is an intrusion detection system for the protection of concrete flooring. It employs special pressure sensors which detect a person walking or standing on the protected area. Being integrated into the concrete screed of the flooring, its sensors prove to be invisible and very hard to sabotage. SISMA CA protects all the strategic areas situated before building entrances (doors, windows and glass doors) or along walkways and driveways.

Thanks to its invisible approach, the system does not affect the aestetics of the place to be protected: this is appreciated not only in residential sites, but also for the protection of museums, art galleries and archaeological sites.

The system is not affected neither by adverse weather conditions, including snow and hail, nor by common environmental nuisances such as the falling of leaves and light branches. The passage of small animals is well tolerated by SISMA CA.

1.1 THE COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM

SISMA CA is composed of sensors, electronic boards, cables and other components which DEA Security produces according to strict quality standards. The two most important components of SISMA CA are the sensors and the processing boards which are the result of a long process of research and development and benefit from a continuous technological upgrading.

1.1.1 THE SENSORS

SISMA CA uses special sensors which detect the pressure generated by a person standing or walking on the protected area. While the flooring is being built, the sensors are placed on the surface of the slab and then they are covered with the concrete of the screed. Even though they are installed under a thick layer of concrete and are designed to resist loads of tons, SISMA CA sensors can perceive the slightest step.

The sensitive core of SISMA CA sensor is composed of a piezoceramic transducer, sealed and protected against seepage of water, corrosive agents and mechanic stress. The sensor is maintenance free and is not subjected to electric failure since it does not contain active electronic components.

For an easy and quick installation, the sensors are supplied in prewired modules, for the protection of areas from one to four square metres; these modules can be aligned to cover surfaces of any dimension. SISMA CA sensor-modules are available on our catalogue under part number which follows the pattern MDXX-SMCA, where 'XX' indicates the number of sensors contained in the concerned module.

Since each sensor-module is connected to its own processing board, and the latter can be univocally identified, SISMA CA allows you to accurately locate the area concerned by the intrusion and to calibrate each zone independently, by varying its security level according to the risk level relevant to that area. This zoning also makes SISMA CA system suitable for coupling with CCTV systems.

And detection Along a SISMA CA sensor-module the detectors are alternately wired on two different communication lines (A and B), so that an intruder walking on the protected area could generate a signal on both of the lines at the same time. In this way, the processing board receives a “double consent” (AND detection) to discriminate possible environmental nuisances from real intrusion attempts.

1.1.2 THE CONNECTION CABLECV-SMCA cable connects the single detectors to each other and sends the signals generated by a sensor-module to the relevant processing board. This cable has been designed according to DEA Security's specifications to make it suitable for a permanent use in the concrete.

The cable is composed of six tinned copper wires, pair twisted, and a double shielding of tinned copper braid and aluminium tape. The heavy-duty jacket, PVC-based, is crushing-proof and guarantees a very high wire insulation.

1.1.3 THE PROCESSING BOARDS

The signals coming from the sensor-modules are amplified and processed by special microprocessor boards which analyse and interpret what is perceived by the detectors.

There are two solutions to manage and process these signals, each one designed to meet different requirements:

- SC-SMCA-Z1, a stand-alone processing board which collects and analyses the signals coming from one sensor-module (alarm zone) and provides them through relay outputs;

- SC-SMCA-CTRL + SC-SMCA-PU + SC-ER8, a modular solution which simultaneously manages a large number of zones, up to 24, in a flexible and centralized way. Under this configuration each sensor-module is connected to an interface board, named SC-SMCA-PU, which is in its turn connected to SC-SMCA-CTRL board by means of SMCA NET communication bus. SC-SMCA-PU boards amplify the signals coming from the sensor-modules and send them to SC-SMCA-CTRL controller board, which processes the signals and raises the alarm status (if any). The controller can be connected to maximum three SC-ER8 expansion boards; each expansion board provides 8 configurable relay outputs.

The use of SC-SMCA-Z1 boards is recommended for systems consisting of 7 sensor-modules maximum: beyond such number the use of SC-SMCA-CTRL + SC-SMCA-PU system proves to be more cost-effective and easier to be managed.

Service software

SISMA CA system - The components of the system

SC-SMCA-Z1 and SC-SMCA-CTRL allow you to adjust the sensitivity parameters and the detection algorithms individually, so as to maximize the performance of the system in each single installation or to calibrate it according to specific needs.

The calibration and programming of the processing boards are performed from a PC. Through a user-friendly software you can view a real time graph of the signals coming from each sensor-module and the inputs and the outputs status. By this software you can also upload a configuration previously saved and view the event logs.

The advanced analysis algorithms of SISMA CA processing boards are one of the strong points of DEA Security’s technology. Thanks to them, the detection system can discriminate the different types of intrusion events, filtering all the environmental factors which might raise improper alarms, including adverse weather conditions which are well tolerated by the system.

The processing boards provide alarm, tamper and failure signals through relays (C/NC contacts), but can be also connected to DEA NET centralization network or over Ethernet network with IP Protocol. For details, see chapter Centralization of the signals.

Log memoryThe processing boards are provided with a large memory where all the signals coming from the sensor-modules are recorded in chronological order: DEA Security's engineers can carry out an accurate analysis of these logs in order to determine the cause raising the alarm.

z If the area to be protected exceeds the capacity of a single sensor-module (1, 1.5, 2, 3 or 4 m²), you can place more sensor-modules side by side. Each module must be managed by its own processing board SCSMCA-Z1 or SC-SMCA-PU.

Module 1 Module 2

Module 3

To design a SISMA CA system you need first to allocate the zones where the sensor-modules have to be placed. Such areas can be covered with differet types of flooring provided that the base is composed of an armoured concrete slab of minimum 10 cm thickness and a concrete screed between 6 and 10 cm thickness. The second step consists in dimensioning the sensor-modules according to the type of access to be protected. If the latter is protected by a physical barrier (window, door, grating, gate, etc.) which can temporarily stops the intruder, you can create a detection zone as wide as the entrance and at least 1 metre deep (Fig. 1). If the access is not protected by windows, doors or other physical barriers, such as in driveways and walkways (Fig. 2), you need to create a detection area as wide as the path and at least 2 m long (walking direction): this is to prevent the intruder from circumventing the protected area. SISMA CA areas along driveways and walkways are normally combined with SISMA CP detection zones to "close" the layer of protection when the terrain is interrupted by surfaces with concrete foundations.

Although SISMA CA tolerates the presence of small animals, DEA Security always recommends to install the system in enclosed sites to prevent wild or stray animals from entering. Medium or large sized domestic animals must be kept out of reach of the SISMA CA detection area.

1.2.2 INSTALLATION OF THE SYSTEM

The sensor-modules are supplied with 5-metre output cable, therefore if the distance between the module and the relevant processing board is more than that, you need to extend the cable by using CV-SMCA connection cable. All electric connections must be tin soldered and sealed with RP-100 two-component polyurethane resin inside JBX-SMCA cases (for junctions) or TBX-SMCA (for terminations). The sealing of each case requires a pack of resin. The sensor-modules are supplied with prewired termination.

SISMA CA sensor-modules are supplied with punched elastomeric membranes, 50 x 50 cm, having a sensor-shaped hole in the middle (Fig.1). Placed one next to the other on the slab, the membranes delimit the coverage area of each sensor and help you to find a position as

symmetrical as possible with respect to the area to cover.

Inside the holes on the membranes you must pour an adequate quantity of adhesive (also supplied with the sensor-module) on which to place the sensor (Fig.3), making sure the latter sticks to the slab. Once the sensors have been fixed, the modules should be covered with

concrete as quickly as possible (Fig. 4 and 5).

The processing boards are usually provided in prewired polyester cabinets (AP-C) which DEA Security assembles according to the project specifications. These cabinets have IP44/IK10 protection rating and are supplied with safety locks, base plate, fixing brackets, tamper switch, burglary-proof sensor, DIN rail terminal board, socket with thermal magnetic circuit breaker and wiring documentation. On request, DEA can also provide electronic boards in bulk: in this case, however, we recommend their installation in suitable cabinets having features similar to the above-mentioned ones.Depending on the case, the processing boards can be placed inside a cabinet situated near the control panel or in a field cabinet near the sensor-modules.

Placement of SC-SMCA-Z1 processing boardsWhen SISMA CA is used to protect the entries to a building or walkways and driveways situated within 150 metres from the control panel, SC-SMCA-Z1 processing boards may be installed inside a centralization cabinet placed near the control panel (Fig. 1). If SISMA CA is employed to protect areas which are situated more than 150 metres away from the control panel, SC-SMCA-Z1 boards must be installed inside field cabinets near the sensor-modules.

Placement of SC-SMCA-PU processing boardsWhen the system SC-SMCA-CTRL + SC-SMCA-PU + SC-ER8 is used to protect the entries to a building, two solutions are available:1) grouping SC-SMCA-PU boards inside a centralization cabinet placed near the control panel (Fig.2);2) placing SC-SMCA-PU boards near the sensor-modules, in suitable connection boxes installed inside the building (Fig. 3).

Regardless of the chosen solution, we recommend to install SC-SMCA-CTRL boards and SC-ER8 relay expansion boards inside a cabinet placed near the control panel.

SC-SMCA-PU boards communicate with each other and with SC-SMCA-CTRL by means of SMCA NET which is made with FTP cable cat. 5.

SC-SMCA-PU boards are normally powered by SC-SMCA-CTRL board: in this case the length of SMCA NET varies according to the number of SC-SMCA-PUs connected. By inserting SC-SMCA-AS supply voltage interfaces, the distance between the SC-SMCA-CTRL board and the SC-SMCA-PU boards can be increased up to 800 metres.

On DEA SECURITY's documentation, the cabinets are named “boxes”. The “box0” is the centralization cabinet placed near the control panel.

1.2.4 CONTENTS OF A CENTRALIZATION CABINET

SISMA CA system - How to design the system

In the most common configurations of SISMA CA system, the electronic boards are installed inside a centralization cabinet placed near the control panel. The alarm, tamper and failure signals are provided through relays (C/NC contacts) from the processing boards and from the relay expansion boards (if any). The sensitivity calibration and the configuration parameters are performed from a PC connected to the RS-232 port of the processing boards.A centralization cabinet may contain the following devices:

• SC-SMCA-Z1 boards and/or SC-SMCA-CTRL + SC-SMCA-PU; • one or more SC-ER8 relay expansion boards; • a 13,8V stabilized linear power supply AL-DN-DEAPW for the connection to the mains; • a tamper switch;• a burglary-proof sensor;• a 12V backup battery (not supplied by DEA Security).

Each cabinet must be supplied by 230 Vac.

Example of a typical SISMA CA centralization cabinet

SISMA CA system can be also connected to DEA NET centralization system (see chapter 2): in this case the alarm, tamper and failure signals generated by the processing boards are provided by SC-DN-CTRL or SC-DN-ETHCTRL network controllers.

CENTRALIZATION SYSTEM02

The alarm signals generated by the processing boards can be centralized using DEA NET system, a high-speed bidirectional communication network. DEA NET interfaces Dea Security's perimeter intrusion detection systems to a control panel or to a supervision software, and can integrate third-party detection systems into a unique perimeter protection system.

DEA NET allows you to manage the system from a single remote station, simplifying its configuration and ordinary maintenance. The relevant software allows you to calibrate and program all the processing boards connected over the network, to check the inputs and the outputs status, to view in real time the signals coming from the sensors and to download the event logs.

THE COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM2.1

processing board

DEA NET is a bidirectional communication network using special electronic controllers which gather the alarm, tamper and failure signals raised by the processing boards placed inside the field cabinets and send them to the control panel

or to the security management software (please see page 23).

To design the communication network, two types of controllers are available: DN CONTROLLER (SC-DN-CTRL part no), which uses DEA NET proprietary protocol to communicate both with the processing boards and 3rd party devices, and DN ETHERNET CONTROLLER (SC-DN-ETHCTRL part no) which communicates over Ethernet by means of TCP/IP and UDP/IP standard protocols.

DN CONTROLLER is generally placed in the control room or near the control panel and can manage up to 100 processing boards and 256 programmable relay outputs. DN ETHERNET CONTROLLER is usually placed inside the field cabinets and can manage up to 16 boards and 64 programmable relay outputs.

Both controllers are supplied with a service software for Microsof Windows which allows you to set up all the parameters of the processing boards placed inside the field cabinets and to view the event logs stored in the boards. The connection to the system can occur through the RS-232 serial port present on the two Controllers or over Ethernet (the latter only for DN ETHERNET CONTROLLER).

DEA NET controllers make it possible:• to take the alarm signals through special relay expansions boards (SC-DN-ER16) for the connection and integration

with the control panel or with the videosurveillance system (CCTV);• from a laptop, to set up all the parameters of the processing boards inside the field cabinet;• to use DEA MAP security management software;• to integrate DEA systems into third-party security management software by means of DN MANAGER interface

board (for DN CONTROLLER only) or DEA MAP DLL dynamic library software.

2.1.1 THE NETWORK CONTROLLERS

■ 19 ■

The centralization system - The components of the system

2.1.2 DN HT REPEATER NETWORK NODEThe centralization with DN CONTROLLER involves the use of DN HT REPEATER (SC-DN-HTRPT part no), which is an interface device between the controller and the processing boards. It creates two different serial connection lines: a full-duplex one, for the communication with DN CONTROLLER and other DN HT REPEATERs (if any); and a half-duplex one (bus), for the communication with the processing boards.

DN HT REPEATER also has the task to amplify and regenerate the signals over DEA NET, so as to cover longer distances. The maximum distance between the two DN HT REPEATERs or between the DN CONTROLLER and the frst DN HT REPEATER is 2 km with FTP cable cat. 5, 5 km with multi-mode fiber and 50 km with single-mode fiber (a special converter is needed to use the optical fiber). The maximum length of the bus between an HT REPEATER and the farthest processing board, which can be designed with an FTP cable cat. 5 or with a twisted pair cable for EIA RS-485 applications, is instead 1.5 km.

DN HT REPEATER is also available in a high-insulation version, named DN HT REPEATER AS (SC-DN-HTRPTAS part no) which has been designed for environments highly disturbed by electromagnetic emissions. Its logical functions are the same as the ones of the standard model.

2.1.3 EXPANSION AND INTERFACE BOARDS

2.1.3.1 DN ER16 relay expansion board (SC-DN-ER16 part no)This board allows you to transfer the signals coming from DEA NET on C/NC/NO contacts. It provides 16- relay outputs which can be configured via software from DN CONTROLLER or DN ETHERNET CONTROLLER.

DN ER16 board allows you to interface DEA detection systems with the control panel or other videosurveillance systems and operate actuators placed along the perimeter reached by DEA NET.

2.1.3.2 DN I/O interface board (SC-DN-IO part no)This board allows to send over DEA NET the alarm signals generated by third-party devices provided with relay outputs, such as reed switches and IR/MW barriers. DN I/O provides auxiliary relay outputs which allow to send commands to the equipment in the field.

DN I/O board provides 4 triple balanced NC inputs and 4 digital inputs that can be configured via software. They also provide 2 relay outputs which can be both configured by means of DN CONTROLLER or DN ETHERNET CONTROLLER.

A special version of this board, DN I/O LP (SC-DN-IOLP part no), is also available. It can be programmed to perform logical operations on the inputs by means of a programming software based on the Ladder Logic graphical standard. The result of the logical operation can be used both to activate local physical relays and to send fully configurable signals to DEA NET.

The centralization system - The components of the system

2.1.3.3 DN MANAGER interface board (SC-DN-MNG part no)It is an interface board which allows to send and receive signals over DEA NET by means of a clear protocol, making it possible the integration of DEA Security detection systems with third-party management software.

DN MANAGER board has to be connected to DN CONTROLLER and communicates with third-party software by means of a RS-485 full-duplex serial port.

The integration of DEA Security detection systems with third-party software can be performed through DEA MAP DLL dynamic library software.

2.1.4 DN DEA POWER POWER SUPPLY UNIT (AL-DN-DEAPW part no)DN DEA POWER is a microprocessor stabilized linear power supply unit which can be connected over DEA NET. Unlike a normal power supply, DN DEA POWER sends over DEA NET the critical information about the supply of the system, such as output voltage and current, backup battery voltage and current, battery recharge status, mains voltage, digital inputs and serial link status. By means of DEA NET, this information can be monitored in real time from a remote location.

DN DEA POWER has 4 programmable digital inputs which enable it to perform additional functions, such as the management of tamper-proof devices (tamper and burglary-proof). It is also provided with an event digital memory which can be useful to determine the cause of possible failures along the power supply circuit.

2.1.5 THE CONNECTION CABLEAs already mentioned, the connection between DN CONTROLLER and DN HT REPEATER and the one between two or more DN HT REPEATERs can be executed by using an FTP cable cat. 5 or superior. DEA Security can supply an FTP cable (CV-DN part number) which follows the TIA/EIA 568 cat. 5e standards. In addition to the high quality of its components, this cable is featured by a thermoplastic double sheath and a rodent-proof stainless steel braid armour. The CV-DN cable is available in reels of 250 and 500 metres.

2.1.6 THE SOFTWARE

2.1.6.1 DEA MAP DLL software library (SW-DM-DLL part no)DEA MAP DLL is a software library for Microsof Windows which allows to integrate the signals raising from DN ETHERNET CONTROLLER and DN CONTROLLER into third-party software. When used in combination with DN CONTROLLER, the library needs DEA MAP SERVER (SW-DM-SRV part no) interface software.

2.1.6.2 ETHERNET SHARER centralization software (SW-ETHSHR part no)DN ETHERNET SHARER software allows to design and manage a network of DN ETHERNET CONTROLLERs connected to each other by means of an IEEE 802.3 Ethernet network. Thanks to this software, all the resources (processing boards and interface boards) connected to a DN ETHERNET CONTROLLER through DEA NET bus can be shared and managed also by all the other DN ETHERNET CONTROLLERs of the network.

CENTRALIZATION SCHEMES2.2

Distributed topology Star topology

2.2.1 CENTRALIZATION WITH DN CONTROLLER

Thanks to the versatility of DN HT REPEATER network node, DN CONTROLLER allows you to design DEA NET with a distributed topology, with a star topology or with a hybrid topology (the latter is a combination of the first two

topologies).

In the distributed topology, full-duplex DEA NET line is used as a communication backbone to connect DN CONTROLLER, placed inside the centralization cabinet (“box 0”), with the HT REPEATERs placed inside the field cabinets. Each DN HT REPEATER creates an independent bus for each field cabinet.

In the star topology, instead, more communication buses are created. They come out of the centralization cabinet and branch out to the different field cabinets. In this case all DN HT REPEATERs used to realize each bus derivation are placed inside the centralization cabinet. The main limitation of this kind of configuration is that it is not possible to connect more than 16 processing boards for each branch of the DEA NET bus; in addition, each branch can cover a maximum distance of 1.5 km.

Centralization with FTP cable cat. 5 or superior

3rd party supervision system

The centralization system - Centralization schemes

2.2.2 CENTRALIZATION WITH DN ETHERNET CONTROLLER

The typical centralization model over Ethernet involves a DN ETHERNET CONTROLLER placed inside each field cabinet and connected to up to 16 processing boards by means of DEA NET bus.

DN ETHERNET CONTROLLER can also be placed inside the centralization cabinet and a DN HT REPEATER node can be used to connect the controller to one or more field cabinets.

Apart from the solution chosen, each DN ETHERNET CONTROLLER communicates over Ethernet by means of RJ45 port. The connection can be made with FTP cable cat. 5 or, using suitable media converters, with optical fiber. If the connection is made with FTP cable cat. 5, the distance between cabinet and Ethernet network cannot exceed 100 metres.

chapter

DEA MAP is a software for the supervision and the management of one or more DEA Security detection systems connected to DEA NET centralization system. It integrates, in a single management system, both the perimeter intrusion detection system and the videosurveillance system (CCTV), displaying the protected area on a graphical map. This user-friendly software allows you the immediate identification of the zone concerned by a possible intrusion.

DEA MAP also allows you the direct interaction with the processing boards present in the field and the management, by means of DN I/O interface boards, of third-party devices provided with relay outputs (e.g. magnetic contacts and IR/MW barriers).

Depending on the version, this software provides a comprehensive management of IP cameras and their video streamings, which can be recorded, archived and replayed. Thanks to the Video Wall feature, up to 16 video streamings can be viewed at the same time, each of them on an independent window.

DEA MAP software can be used on different terminals (multi-terminal mode) and allows you to set up different privileges for each user (multi-user).

MAIN FEATURES3.1

3.1.1 THE GRAPHICAL MAP

The main window of the software displays a graphical map which enables you to locate and identify, by means of icons and other graphical elements, the alarm zones and the cameras. The icons can be assigned to single devices

in the field, such as sensors, sensor-strings and fixed or mobile cameras, and their colour shows the real-time status.

DEA MAP can manage multilevel maps, by selecting them from a tree-view menu which is organized into folders and sub-folders. Each map can be linked to other maps displaying different areas of the protected site, e.g. a specific floor of a building.

DEA MAP can import maps from the most common vectorial and bitmap formats.

3.1.2 THE MANAGEMENT OF THE DETECTION SYSTEMSDEA MAP allows you to manage systems of any complexity through a modern and user-friendly graphical interface. By software, it is also possible to add, modify and configure the alarm zones, by grouping them according to logical criteria (e.g. depending on the type of access to protect) or topographical criteria (e.g. all the sensors from the same storey of a building). In addition, DEA MAP allows you to disable or bypass sensor-strings, sensor-modules or groups of sensors and to plan these actions at set times.

Exclusive feature of DEA MAP management software is the possibility of varying, with a simple mouse click, thedetection capability of the whole system or part of it, so as to immediately react to any sudden change in the securityrisk level of the protected site. This capability acknowledges the alarm level standards (green, yellow and red) accepted bythe international security agencies.

3.1.3 ALARM HANDLING For each alarm event specific actions and customized audio/video warnings can be programmed:

• logging of the alarm signals and of the user's actions• automatic recall of the associated camera stream• video streaming recording

The alarms can be sorted following a priority criterion and the installer can define custom user's actions.

Both the alarm log and the system warnings provide advanced searching, sorting, grouping and statistical analysisfunctions. The logs can be saved as a Microsof Excel file.

3.1.4 CCTV SYSTEM MANAGEMENTDEA MAP provides a complete management of the videosurveillance system: remote control of the IP cameras (dome and PTZ) and their integration into the graphical map of the perimeter. The video streamings can be viewed on the user's request or on alarm event and recorded for a playback viewing. Thanks to the Videwall feature, 16 video streamings can be viewed at the same time, each of them on an independent window.

The video recording can be continuous or can occur at predefined times or activated by an alarm event. By clicking on an alarm event in the log window, the video streamings or the recording of the concerned camera can be viewed immediately.

DEA MAP SOFTWARE VERSIONS3.2

Three versions of DEA MAP are available: BASIC and ADVANCED, respectively for the management of small and medium/large sites, and FULL for complex sites.

DEA MAP BASIC displays the functionalities of a graphical map, without the video management. It is therefore suitable for supervising sites with no videosurveillance system or where the latter is managed by third-party software.

DEA MAP ADVANCED includes the management of the videosurveillance system, to record, file and reproduce the IP camera video streamings.

DEA MAP FULL, besides displaying the same features as the ADVANCED version, can manage a greater number of graphical elements and video streamings, can support more than 32 network controllers and share the video recording among different video servers (Load Balancing and Failover).
