We are Loudoun Musical Society.

We are a charitable organisation with a very energetic and diverse membership, including nurses, chefs, lawyers, policemen, teachers, farmers and many retired members. LMS has two main strings to its bow; our annual musical production and our year round entertainment with LMS Voices. Both of these provide a great platform for showcasing our very talented members.

Our shows are always the highlight of the year which are staged at the end of September, beginning of October. Although we are very much an amateur society, we always put on a very professional show which continues to be a great success year after year.

Loudoun Musical Society’s other string is LMS Voices. This group of members perform in the community at guilds and other society meetings. This provides additional opportunity for members to perform throughout the year while assisting in promoting the annual show. We also have a very active social life, ranging from a car treasure hunt, Summer fete, dinner/dance, theatre trips and general get togethers.

In order for us to continue to increase participation in our Society and achieve our vision of an entertaining, active more ambitious group we are inviting you to sponsor our spectacular show, Sister Act.

Loudoun Musical Society was formed on 8th March, 1976 to serve the Irvine valley area. At that time there was no adult musical society in the locality and there was a specific demand for a musical society to promote the performance and appreciation of music in the area. Mrs. Valerie Grant brought about the formation of Loudoun Musical Society with a membership of around 40 individuals.

The Society’s first production of a musical was “No, No, Nanette” in 1977 and was a huge success, playing to packed houses on each of the three performances.

During its first decade, the Society flourished and produced a wide variety of classic and popular musicals. Each of these shows was supported by a loyal rapidly expanding audience. The fact LMS now performed six shows a week was an obvious sign of their success.

Time brought further challenges when the Society, in conjunction with the Kilmarnock 400 Celebrations, produced “West Side Story” introducing a younger membership and expanding the ranks and appeal of LMS. This afforded the opportunity to be more adventurous and innovative in its choice of shows.

Through the support of its Patrons, ever expanding audiences and with the enthusiasm of its members, both playing and non-playing, the Society enters its 36th year as a forward looking, dynamic company, which constantly seeks new challenges.

We are delighted to announce that we will be producing ‘Sister Act’ in October 2015 at the Palace Theatre in Kilmarnock from Tuesday 6th to Saturday 10th October.

Based on the 1992 film of the same name, Sister Act tells the story of aspiring disco diva Deloris Van Cartier. Trying to work her way to the top in 1970s Philadelphia, Deloris falls in love with a very tough - and very married - gangster boyfriend named Curtis, and when Deloris witnesses him commit a murder she ends up in hiding on police orders in a convent whose parish has fallen on hard times. Though the sequin-free lifestyle doesn’t agree with her, Deloris finds her calling working with the choir, and breathes new life into the dusty convent while discovering a sisterhood she’s never had before.
