The Wheat and the Weeds
Today’s Gospel is a wonderful example of the importance of informed decisions and judicious action. The master
in the parable is a fine steward of his land, his household, and the people, who are dependent on him. Jesus gives
this situation as an example of the way we should take care of our faith community and our lives. Gather
knowledge, wait for the appropriate moment, and most importantly, ask for the instructions of the Master. The
Master sees the good of the whole.
In all of human life there is good and there is bad. In my ESL class, we studied American sayings and words of
wisdom. Two adages reflecting this gospel come to mind: “Take the bitter with the better.” “Haste makes waste.”
Surely, it was a bitter moment when our church roof collapsed and mementoes of over a century of devotion were
lost. We are in a difficult moment since that sad event. We wonder. “What should we do?” “When do we get
started?” During my first weeks here, I have met with architects, and parish spokespersons. Everyone feels an
urgency to do something. While warning us that “Haste makes waste,” today’s gospel shows us how to get going.
Seek the guidance of our Master. “Lord, what do you want us to do?” “Lord, how can I participate?” “Lord, your
will be done?”
Let this Sunday’s compelling parable be a call to prayer, a call to every one of us. We are a parish of hard
workers. We work hard in every aspect of our lives. The Master of the field of St. Anthony of Padua will direct us
in the way, the amount, and the time-table for our work of rebuilding. Through our communal attention to this first
step, we will forget the bitter moments and be present for a better harvest time. If we – each one of us - begin
today, seeking guidance with fervent prayer, the answer will come, and it will be the perfect plan for us. The
important thing is that we take this first step together.
El Trigo y la Cizaña
El Evangelio de hoy es un maravilloso ejemplo de la importancia de las decisiones conocidas y las acciones sabias.
El maestro de la parábola es un buen administrador de su tierra, su casa y el pueblo, quienes dependen de él. Jesús
presenta esta situación como un ejemplo de cómo debemos cuidar nuestra comunidad de fe y nuestras vidas.
Reunir conocimientos, esperar el momento apropiado, y lo más importante, pedir las instrucciones del Maestro. El
Maestro ve el bienestar de todo.
En toda la vida humana existe el bien y el mal. En mi clase de ESL, (Inglés como segunda lengua), estudiamos los
refranes americanos y las palabras de sabiduría. Dos adagios que reflejan este evangelio que traemos a nuestra
mente: "Tome el amargo con el mejor." "La prisa produce perdida."
Seguramente, fue un momento amargo cuando el techo de nuestra Iglesia se desplomo y se perdieron recuerdos de
más de un siglo de devoción. Estamos en un momento difícil desde ese triste suceso. Nos preguntamos. "¿Qué
debemos hacer?" "¿Cuándo empezamos?" Durante mis primeras semanas aquí, me he reunido con arquitectos y
algunas personas de la parroquia. Todo el mundo siente la urgencia de hacer algo. Mientras nos advierte que "la
prisa produce perdida", el Evangelio de hoy nos enseña cómo salir adelante. Sigan las instrucciones del nuestro
Maestro. "Señor, ¿qué quieres que hagamos?" "Señor, ¿cómo puedo yo participar?" "Señor, ¿Qué se haga tu
voluntad?"
Que la parábola convincente de este domingo sea un llamado a la oración, un llamado a cada uno de nosotros.
Somos una parroquia de fuertes trabajadores. Trabajamos fuertemente en todos los aspectos de nuestras vidas. El
Maestro del terreno de San Antonio de Padua nos dirigirá en el camino, la cantidad y el tiempo de nuestra obra de
reconstrucción. A través de nuestra atención comunitaria en este primer paso, olvidaremos los momentos amargos
y estaremos atentos para un mejor tiempo de cosecha. Si cada uno de nosotros comienza hoy, buscando orientación
con una ferviente oración, la respuesta vendrá y será el plan perfecto para nosotros. Lo más importante es que
tomemos este primer paso juntos.

Diocese of Paterson Marian Pilgrimage
October 21st, 2017 The Basilica of the
National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
The Diocese of Paterson will be hosting the 2017
Marian Pilgrimage this October. The trip will provide
the faithful opportunity to join parishioners
throughout the Diocese in a prayer filled day that
includes Mass, Confession, Rosary, Divine Mercy
and Catechetical presentations. We ask that you
