WelcomeDear Friends,
Welcome to the 6th Annual Finger Lakes Plein Air Festival and Competition! These pages contain your first opportunity to meet the forty gifted artists participating in the festival. They are enormously talented and we look forward to seeing how they capture the beauty of our region!
Our competition judge this year is distinguished artist Sara Linda Poly. Known for sweeping skies and light in her landscapes, Sara has been the winner of numerous awards, including the Grand Prize at Plein Air Easton 2016, and has been featured in magazines such as International Artist Magazine and Plein Air Magazine. After studying art, Sara spent many years living, traveling and teaching here and abroad, and now teaches classes and workshops locally and internationally in addition to painting. This talented artist and teacher has agreed to provide a painting demonstration on Friday, June 9, from 7–9 p.m., during a ticketed event at Canandaigua Country Club. This event will allow you to observe the artist's creative process in action!
As in prior years, the 2017 festival is designed to promote and showcase many local organizations and landmarks in our beautiful community. The festival culminates in a ticketed preview party on Saturday night, June 10, from 6–9 p.m., held at the newly-renovated permanent tent at Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion, and in a free, day-long Sunday exhibition and sale at Sonnenberg’s Carriage House. New events include an “Art Walk” in downtown Canandaigua, on Thursday evening, June 8, and a day-long “Paint Out,” reception and sale featuring wineries on the Canandaigua Wine Trail. We have also brought back favored events, including our week-long Window Shopping, and Saturday's “Community Paint Out” and “Quick Draw,” all of which take place downtown. Please see the enclosed calendar for a full schedule of events and further information.
A special cheer for our volunteers and supporters! Without the many donors, sponsors, merchants, judges, and hosts, who support the festival, and the countless hours donated by volunteers, this event would not be possible. We are truly grateful for the support from the community and appreciate your recognition of the immeasurable ways the arts enhance our community. On behalf of the Finger Lakes Plein Air Committee and the Ontario County Arts Council, thank you for your participation and for joining us at the festival. With your help, this will be our best year yet! ❂
