A huge thank you to those that came along
to support the Maldon Half Marathon on
Sunday. It was lovely to see lots of familiar faces
cheering runners on in the crowds. The Plume
PE team finished the race in very respectable
times and can be seen in the photo – just about
still smiling.
Huge congratulations to Emily Ambrose
(Deputy Head Girl - Year 13) who also took
part and successfully finished the gruelling, hilly
course. Thanks must also go to the team of
volunteers from College who helped to
marshall, give out drinks and
support the organisers and runners
(Yasmine Rassasse, Laila Rassasse,
Yazmin Zubair, Alex Woosey,
Emily Beattie, Megan Luscombe, Ellie Barbrook and Fahima Begum).
If you would like to donate to the David Randall Foundation it's not too
late. They encourage dedicated people, restrained by financial constraints,
to pursue their ambitions and to give those with life threatening illnesses
the opportunity to live life to the full as long as possible. Money can be
given in to the finance office at
Fambridge Road campus, or
alternatively, via a link to the just

Essex Road Safety have commissioned two road safety plays for all Year 7 and Year 9
students across the county. Plume Academy students will be attending plays on
Friday 7 October (Year 7 and a performance of 'Split Second ') and Monday
17 October (Year 9 and a performance of 'Perfect').
The nature of each play will challenge students about the need to remain safe on the
roads at all times, including personal responsibility and safety when being a passenger
in a vehicle. The performances also include the importance of relationships and how
some can be challenged under the difficult circumstances
portrayed in the plays.
If you have any concerns about any student who will be viewing the performances,
please contact the student's Head /Assistant Head of Year or Ms Mallett, Personal
Development lead at the Academy.

During the 2016 summer term several Plume students worked
extremely hard, practising and preparing for their instrumental or
vocal music examinations. This takes a great deal of time and
commitment, and is a nerve-wracking experience, so we say a very
big well done to the following students who passed:
Lauren Murphy – Grade 1 Singing
Cameron Morrison – Grade 3 Flute
with Distinction
Congratulations! If you would like to update us about a music
examination you have recently taken, please let us know via:

Emily and Harriet Garrett competed
at a national show jumping
competition on Sunday 18
September. They both qualified
during the summer for the ‘Sunshine
Tour’ which is an amateur show
jumping competition held at the
famous Hickstead UK showground;
The All England Jumping
Course. Competitors come from all over the United Kingdom to compete.
Both girls rode amazingly well - Emily found herself just outside the rosettes on
the day finishing a very respectable 22 out of 53. Harriet managed to beat off
tough competition and finish in 6th place - a truly outstanding achievement when
competing against the ‘best of the best!’ Also noteworthy is the fact that the girls
have both only been riding for two years and this is their first season out
competing.

On Monday 26 September Plume Academy celebrated European Day of Languages. Staff at Plume wore a badge with the flag of a country meaning something to them, greetings in the language of this country and a chosen word. The country most chosen was Italy followed by Greece, New Zealand and India. Reasons ranged from places where teachers worked, home country, honeymoon or proposal destinations, family origins, holiday memories, wife or hus-band’s nationality and dream destinations. Students also shared their chosen country in class and during Learning Group time. This lead to some fantastic exchanges between staff and students and raised knowledge, understanding and awareness of countries beyond our shores. The winner of our staff competition was M r Honeyands with Tanzania “My wife and I climbed Mt Kilimanjaro in 2012 for a charity that sends gifted youngsters to university. We raised over £10,000 and sent three 18 year old Kenyans to univer-sity. The special word I chose for the day was “Uhuru” which means freedom. I chose the word as it is the name of
the peak of Kilimanjaro and also my son’s middle name – his mum was (unknowingly) pregnant with him when she climbed the mountain.” The MFL Department at Plume Academy would like to thank students and staff for taking part. A special thank you to the LAIC team for their involvement and to the catering team for offering international dishes this week. Madame Rose, KS3 Coordinator for Languages
