What’s New

This chapter introduces new features and a list of improvements & enhancements that can be found in

this release of SketchBook Express for Metro.

New initial screen

When you launch SketchBook Express, a new home screen appears with options to start sketching, visit the Gallery, import an image, view the Quick Tour slides, and get information on upgrading to SketchBook Pro.

Lagoon UI updates

A new icon appears in the Lagoon. The options within its marking menu have also changed.

Brush puck enhancement

In the Brush puck, right-click and drag up or down to change the opacity of a brush. Right-click and drag left or right to change its size.

Import Image

From either the home screen or title menu, select Import Image to add an image to the canvas.

Gallery

From either the home screen or title menu, select Gallery to save your sketch to the Gallery, open an existing sketch, or share a sketch.

New toolbar

Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to access the toolbar, which contains the following options:

• Hide UI

• Lagoon Right

Getting Started

When you launch SketchBook Express, the home screen appears with the following options:

• Start Sketching - go to the canvas and start your sketch.

• Gallery - access the Gallery and either open an existing project or delete one.

• Import Image - bring an image into SketchBook Express.

• Quick Tour - view the slides and get tips on using SketchBook Express.

• Go Pro - get information on upgrading to SketchBook Pro and all this has to offer.

Brushes

Use an assortment of brushes and quickly swap between brushes.

Choose a brush From the lagoon, tap and flick to choose one of the following brushes:

Pencil Airbrush Hard Eraser Soft Eraser

Ballpoint Pen Flood Fill Marker Paintbrush

Resize a brush

Tap , then drag to the right to increase a brush’s size or left to decrease it. The brush’s size appears onscreen.

Change brush opacity

Tap , then drag up to increase a brush’s opacity or down to decrease it.

Flood fill

From the lagoon, tap and flick to fill a closed area with color.

Undo or redo a brushstroke

In the lagoon, tap to undo and to redo the last action. There is a maximum of 20 undo/redos.

Clear brushstrokes

From the lagoon, tap and flick to clear the entire canvas.

Swap between two brushes

From the lagoon, tap and flick to move between the current and last brush.

Colors

Tap the Color puck to open the Color Wheel and select a color.

Swap between colors

From the lagoon, tap and flick to swap between the

current and last color selected.

Pick a color from the screen

From the lagoon, tap and flick (Color Picker) to grab a color from the canvas.

Drag over the color you want to capture. Lift your finger when you’ve captured the color.

Change your view There are two ways to change your view, zooming in and out and using Fit to View.

Zoom in To zoom in, with two fingers, drag and expand on the canvas.

Zoom outTo zoom out, with two fingers, pinch the canvas.

Fit to viewSwipe up from the bottom edge of the screen and tap to fit your sketch to the screen.

Toolbar

Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to access the toolbar, which contains the following options: Hide UI, Lagoon right, Fit to view, Symmetry X, Symmetry Y, and New.

Hide the UIFrom the toolbar, tap Hide UI to remove the UI and see only your canvas.

SymmetryFrom the toolbar, tap Symmetry Y for horizontal

symmetry or Symmetry X for vertical symmetry. When you draw on one side of the axis, your work is mirrored to the other.

Note - The axis of symmetry always appears at the center of the screen.

Create a sketchFrom the toolbar, tap New to load a fresh canvas.

Change the location of the LagoonFrom the toolbar, tap Lagoon right to flip the Lagoon to the right side of the canvas.

Save your sketch Select Gallery to access the Save option and tap Save.

Share your sketchFrom within a sketch thumbnail, drag down and out to select it. Swipe from the right edge of the screen to access a toolbar, select Share, then select how you want to share your sketch.

Open a saved sketchFrom the Gallery, tap a sketch thumbnail to open it.

Delete a sketchFrom the Gallery, swipe down from within a sketch thumbnail to select it. From the toolbar that appear, select Delete.

Clear a selectionFrom the Gallery, tap Clear Selection to deselect any selected sketches.

Import an image

From either the home screen or title menu, select Import Image to add an image to the canvas.
