IMI has, some years ago, carried out a major research project. The pro-ject is financially supported by the Norwegian Research Council as well as by organizations like the Federation of Norwegian Industries, Marine Div. and the Association of Norwegian Maritime Exporters. It aims at de-veloping solutions enabling suppliers to provide product specifications that customers may import directly in their outline- or building specificati-ons.
The major consequence for our customers is the change in how products are classified. Historically, products have been connected to one group only. We experienced that products had to be duplicated in order to be located via a multiple product groups. In addition to that, product groups have represented a “mixture” of products, some of them being solely component based (i.e. “cranes”), whereas others have been system ba-sed (e.g. “deck machinery”), and others representing a combination (e.g. “deck cranes”). This resulted in a large number of product groups.
The present change in structure, as will be seen in this book, implies that products now are classified in a new component structure (Component Breakdown Structure, CBS). In this system the products are sorted by

type. Then products are also associated with relevant functions or sys-tems according to the well-known SFI system, a group system widely used within the maritime sector.
For instance, products that earlier would belong to the group “deck cra-nes” will now be classified as component group “Cranes, crane equip-ment, etc” and then among the system group “Deck cranes for cargo” (SFI 33). This means that the product in the online version will be shown when searching for cranes in general, and at the same time searching for cargo handling equipment. Both CBS and SFI are defined in a tree struc-ture.
Users will now find it easier to search for and get hold of the relevant pro-ducts.
We have worked intensily to make the transformation to a new grouping structure as smooth as possible and to ensure good quality to our clients. However, this is a major change and we hope our good customers will let us know if improvement areas are found.

The fractions food waste and cooking oil are collected in separate closed holding tanks, while food contaminated waste is compacted and stored refrigerated to avoid smell and bacteria growth. A dewatering unit can be installed downstream of a holding tank when discharge to the sea is prohibited or if zero discharge policy is used.
