We believe it is time to fix the most critical gap in Auckland’s walking and cycling network. Hence we have developed SkyPath, a shared path to be attached to the city-side of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. SkyPath will be 4 metres wide, have a gradient of 3 degrees and include five observation decks, mobility landings and special effects night lighting. The two landings at each end will have artistic expression, developed in partnership with mana whenua, and have convenient linkages via improved public transport, walking and cycling connections. SkyPath has been developed as a community initiative by the AHB Pathway Trust, a charitable organisation. We expect SkyPath to be a cornerstone project for the much needed improvement of walking and cycling conditions all across Auckland. SkyPath will be built using the New Zealand marine composites industry to provide a light weight, low maintenance and attractive facility with a very long service life. To fund the construction of SkyPath, it is proposed that a fare paid by users will pay for the construction cost estimated at $33 million, and the annual operational costs of maintenance, security, administration, insurance, etc. The proposed fare is $2 each way using a HOP card, or $3.50 paying by cash, EFT-POS or TEXT. Whilst we would prefer not to have to charge users, this is favourable pricing when compared to the Northcote ferry fare of $5.50 each way. In 2013, the Trust received funding from Ministry for the Environment to carry out initial consultation and complete the concept design for SkyPath. The feedback received identified key concerns which we have sought to address with the updated design, operations and connecting services. We are pleased to present this updated design for SkyPath and we are now preparing to lodge a resource consent application. We will request that our application is fully notified to enable any interested person to make a submission. Our aim is to have SkyPath open and operational in summer 2015/16. We welcome your questions and feedback by April 28 to help us make SkyPath a spectacular facility for Auckland.

We welcome your questions and feedback by April 28 to help us make SkyPath a spectacular facility for Auckland.

Thank you,
