Kite flying is one of the famous sport in India among children and students and it

catches pace during the festival season like Makar Sankranti, Republic Day and

Basant Panchmi. However, kite flying by using thread made out of plastic, nylon or

similar such synthetic material including popularly known “Chinese thread/ manja"

or any other thread coated with glass/ metallic components causes a lot of injury

to human beings and birds which many a times turns out to be fatal. Such deaths

and incidents have been seen in the news also during the last few years.

Apart from this, such kite flying threads being non-biodegradable, also cause harm to

the environment. These also sometimes result in flash-over on the power lines and

sub-stations thereby causing power interruptions to consumers, straining and

damaging electrical assets, causing accidents, injuries and loss of life.

Therefore, in order to prevent adverse effects on human beings, birds, environment

and electrical assets, etc. Eco club volunteers goes all out to save its fathered friends

and took initiative to conduct 4 week awareness drive from (14.01.2021-16.02.2021)

both online as well as offline mode to create awareness among children‟s and

students and ensure that kite flying is done only with the cotton thread free from any

sharp/ metallic/ glass components / adhesives/ thread strengthening materials.

Shyam Lal College (SLC), takes its first step to spread more awareness among the

students and society about the conservation of Yamuna River. Taking this theme, SLC

presents its first Yamuna Mahotsav from 5th to 6th of March, 2021 to create awareness

for the protecting of conservation of Yamuna River. Eco club of SLC along with NSS

unit also undertake the Plantation drive, Cleanliness drive, Yamuna Aarti with Eco

friendly deyas made by team along with more than 1000 lamps at Ghat No. 21, Yamuna

Bazar, Kashmiri Gate, Delhi 6. Ecoclub volunteers also organized Art and craft

exhibition where handmade nests, flowerpots, environmentally friendly bags, wall

hangings etc. were displayed.

Eco club team conducted awareness drive on Disposal and usage of sanitary pads by means

of social media and by physically interacting with people especially in slum areas from (3-01-

2021 to 9-01-2021). The main aim of the drive was centred on menstrual hygiene and proper

disposal of sanitary napkins as this is the need of the hour. Volunteers also distributed

sanitary pads to almost 800 women‟s who live in slum areas in different areas.

During this pandemic period when mask and sanitizer has become necessity. Eco club team

conducted awareness drive on (14-12- 2020- 15-01-2021) to sensitize people towards

sanitizers and mask not only this they even distributed the (200) sanitizers and (500) mask

to the rikshawala, local vendors, street beggars etc. Various platforms were used to sensitize

people like whatsapp, instagram, facebook etc.

Eco club volunteers made handmade Bird nests and placed them at strategic positions to

attract birds in the college campus.

Eco Club students took small initiative and organised a donation camp on (5-01-2021- 15-01-

2021) during covid-19 at their places in order to help maid, workers, guards by providing

them cooked meals, clothes, food, mask, sanitizers. The main purpose was to feed the hungry

during this pandemic.

The cleanliness and plantation drive was done on 5th

Feb by Eco club volunteers with

aim of enhancing the beauty and pleasure of nearby parks during Covid 19.

Eco Club Volunteers with their team work to provide care, food and enrichments for

the animals. They also spread awareness through social media platforms and

encourage the youth to do the same. 50 volunteers are feeding around 1000 street

animals in various parts of Country every day to ensure they do not go hungry.

Eco cubs play an important role in creating environmental awareness amongst the students.

Eco clubs in colleges are the means by which students can be empowered to participate and

take up meaningful environmental activities and projects. Preparation of Eco-friendly product

out of waste material forms an important part of Eco club as it enables us to make the useless

things more useful. So Eco club team not only make various things like cloth bags, wall

hangings, face mask, wall decorations, flower pots, paper bags and also Create awareness

among students through whatsapp, facebook etc. to use the waste products in best possible

way.

5. Report/Brief Description:

SLC organised flagship event of “Umang-East Delhi Flower Show 3.0” on March 1,

2021 in its campus to encourage the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat

& Swachha Bhart Abhiyan in collaboration with Eco club and Garden committee

and the Special attraction was Opportunity for Nurseries, handmade art and craft.

Hon‟ble Vice chancellor Prof. P.C. Joshi graces the occasion and addressed the

gathering along with Hon‟ble Smt. Savita Gupta, Chairperson, SLC Governing body,

Hon‟ble Prof. Balram Pani, Dean of colleges D.U. Ecoclub students not only

participated in flower show but also exhibited some craft work made out of waste.

They made some creative and useful things from the waste. They even made some

different kind of Bird nest from the waste material.

Eco club team create one month online awareness drive from (15-02-2021- 15-03-

2012) regarding Covid 19 during Holi festival through posters, whatsapp, facebook,

instgram. Not only this they also create awareness regarding water conservation and

Eco-Holi campaign. The objective of „Water Conservation and Eco-Holi Campaign‟

is to raise awareness about the importance of water and to make people understand the

concept of celebrating an eco-friendly Holi which allows us all to enjoy each and

every moment of Holi in the traditional way without compromising with our health

and environment and which also helps in conserving huge amount of precious water.

On eve of “Earth Day” Centre for Eco club members motivate students to engage in

environmentally- conscious practices in collaboration with IQAC, SLC and organized a

poster making competition through Google-meet. Theme of the event was “Importance of

wetlands and water.” The aim was to aware the youth about the need of hour how wetlands

and water are essential part of our life and we can take some measures to control damages to

our planet.

As we had seen the worst situation of mankind due to the second wave of COVID-19 and

because of this various states went through the shortage of oxygen. We all realised the

importance of trees and plants for the survival of the human race. As we all have gone

through this phase our Eco-Club team took an initiative to plant as many trees we can and to

aware others for the same in their own vicinity. Eco Club of Shyam Lal College (University

of Delhi) in collaboration with IQAC celebrates “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav” on eve of 75

years of Independence of India. On The world Environment Day We started a “Plantation

Drive “in different parts of the country. And also started awareness through facebook,

Instagram, Whatsaap, Youtube etc. Our volunteers not only did plantation but did physical

cleanliness drive in nearby areas like kids play area, Old Age People Park and lush green area

with the aim of enhancing the beauty and pleasure. The dustbins in the park have been

demolished due to which the waste gets propagate in the park. So under this drive our team

repaired them and they got back to their original form.

The Annual “Van Mahotsav Week” was organised by SLC Eco-Club team from 1st July to 7

th

July. The week was celebrated as a part to create awareness and spread the message of saving

our planet "Protecting our environment is the need of the hour". The drive was continuation

of world environments Day on 5th

June which continues till 7th

July.

Large Number of students participated in the drive from different courses and different parts

of country online and offline both moods. Students brought more than 50 saplings of herbal

plants such as Curry Leaves, Jatropa, Tulsi, Neem, Basil, Patharchatta, Aloevera, lemon grass

etc. and planted them in the campus. The main objective behind this mega initiative was an

effort to aware people to protect our environment and do plantation for the need of natural

resources which are given by the environment.

The drive was a huge success empowering students with substantial knowledge of

environment and plants and simultaneously enhancing their social skills.

Our Eco-Club team also organized a webinar and to aware our fellow students regarding the

importance of seedling and saplings we planted today might grow into a huge tree providing

shade and oxygen to others or some might grow into a flowering plant that provide a pleasing

aesthetic view. They also launched “Van Samachaar” special edition about the importance of Van

Mahotsav. They also aware people through YouTube by uploading video about the introduction of

Van Mahotsav

Team Efforts: As charity begins at home, our team first planted saplings/plants in their own

garden.

• They also motivated their friends and family members to plant tree/saplings in their own

garden.

• We were really delighted to have a positive response from a number of them.
