The genre of the magazine is pop you can pick this up through the name of the magazine being ‘Top of the pops’ and also how it is presented to the target audience as its aimed at a young key audience at about the age range between 8-15 year olds, it is specifically targeting girls. You can indicate this as the prime stereotypical colour for a girl is used throughout the front cover, the colour that is used is pink.

The master head give a lot away to the target audience as it is aimed at young girls, this in particularly is a huge key as bright pink glitter is used to present the title this therefore engages the target audience as it is very stereotypical for young girls to like pink glittery things appealing.

The cover lines are presented clear and bold as they have used a block font which looks to be similar to Ariel. However the colour scheme of it is more interesting and vibrant as more than one shade of pink has been used this all to do with engaging that target audience as they would attract to something colourful.

The key image is laid across the hole front page. This gives the opportunity to not have dead space within the background, all the other insert images and text has been placed around the image carefully to fill in any space. However the main focus of the image being Jessie J’s face is not covered as she is the main cover line for the magazine, I will take this into consideration for my development of my front cover.

The target audience that the magazine ‘Blender’ is aimed at is teenagers, this is shown as the front cover is very clear and simple as it is not over crowded it is kept to a minimum. The house style colours are also block colours as there is no drop shadow or effects, this reflects on the genre of the magazine as it is pop. Also the house style colours are pink, white and black, pink is a stereotypical colour for young girls therefore this specific magazine is targeted at young teenage girls. The key image is once again

presented across the hole of the front cover page as it is more engaging towards the audience however the image is shown more colourful as it is against a white background this gives the master head a much more powerful look as it is against such light tones making the master head more eye catching towards the audience.

The font is pretty basic, it looks to be extra bold and the font size is rather large looking between 70-100pt. From having a bold font and less body text straight away pulls the audience in to pick up the magazine as it stands out.

The cover line is placed to the left of the key image in a more larger scale font size compared to the other story lines, this helps the audience to understand that the larger font is the cover line to go with the main image. However it is rather unusual to present the main cover line on the outer line of the image as traditionally it is paced across the image at the bottom. I will take this into consideration as I may use this idea for my magazine front cover.

The ‘Top of the pops’ contents page consists of a fluent house style being pink and white this reflects on the genre as it is pop, you can also pick this up as famous pop stars are shown in the insert images such as ‘Selena Gomez’ and ‘One Direction’. This certain magazine is targeted at young girls due to the representation of the magazine as the house style and format of the contents page is shown.

The body text consists of various story lines, the way they have been presented is more interesting as they have not only just listed them but they have also added in the image of the front cover this is a good idea as they have analysed the front cover to show which page the cover lines would be on. They have used a larger font size for the numbers as this then makes them stand out as they are bolder.

The top banner is very unique as it says ‘Inside the mag’ this then indicates the audience that this is the contents page as it is where you would get all the information from. It is a clever way as ‘contents’ was not used it makes it more interesting. Also the font style that was used is rather flowing as if it was hand written this is a good effect as it helps the audience to understand that this is the title as it differs from the body text as that is more of a traditional font style.

There are many insert images on this contents page as it presents it to look more engaging towards the audience. It is also very vibrant to the background as the images contrast against the white plain background making the images more outstanding.

The contents page for ‘Q’ magazine is very traditional as the format layout is very simple as the contents is columned on the left hand side also the body text is very clear as it looks to be a font style similar to ‘Ariel’. The contrast of the black writing on the white strip stands out this presents it to look more professional towards the audience also it is more simplistic for the readers to read.

There is no specific genre for ‘Q’ magazine as it is mainstream. This therefore gives them the opportunity to explore all different genres, this reflects on the target audience as it targets a range of different audience as many genres can be presented in this magazine.

The banner across the top of the contents page is the first thing the audience will look at, it is blocked colours contrasted with white writing also the name of the magazine ‘Q’ is used as a type of logo in the top left of the banner. I like the use of this as it can be used throughout the magazine as a type of signature.

The insert images on this page are not many there is one key image being the larger scale of the boy band which goes with the most important cover line. This is presented as this specific story is in a larger font and the title is bold compared to the others. On the other hand a smaller insert image is at the lower part of the page meaning it is less significant. However the insert images are kept to a minimum of two it is not over crowded as this shows the clear and simple look of the magazine.

This double page spread is took from ‘Q’ magazine which is mainstream. This specific article is about Lady Gaga who links in with the genre ‘Pop’. The left hand page is a full size image of herself as a head and shoulders shot the image takes up hole A4 size. The image is presented at a grey scale combining with the background it is a great effect as the image is darkened as it is against the white background catching the audiences eye. Also the image is very sexual as gaze theory might of been taken into consideration that this image is mainly aimed at a males eye.

The main body text is at a very small scale of about 11-12pt this is because more text can be stored as it is at smaller font size. However the start of each paragraph the first letter is bolder and larger of about the size of 25pt. This is a good way for the page to look more interesting as it is not just presented as a page full of text there is a twist to it, also the beginning letter of the hole article being ‘L’ is stretched to the background of the page presented in the colour red. From doing this it creates that house style theme of red and white as it interweaves with the consistency of the rest of the magazine.

The title of the pop star that the article is about is located at the top hand right corner of the double page spread. The placement of this is chosen very well as if it was placed the opposite side a good lot of dead white space would be left therefore from placing the title there shows the page to look full.

Page 6: Slide share powerpoint

This double page spread is very clear as the themed colour is white, black and red. The background is combined with a large text saying ‘USA’ with a tag line in a black font saying ‘You got the love’ which is lyrics from Florence and the machines song, this indicates the audience to pick up that they have used this cleverly to present her for this particular double page spread.

The image is the main focus of the page as it takes up the first A4 page, this is a big importance as from them doing this it creates a very attractive appeal to the audience also how the models hair is linked with the red and white strip cloth attracts the eye immediately as the bright reds are vibrant and eye catching. From looking at this specific double page spread I may use the idea of blending the colours with the model also on using the first A4 side of the double page spread to be the placement of the image.

The body text is very small roughly at the font size 12pt, however once again the first letter of the article is bolder and is presented in a different style to help the audience to understand that this is the beginning. The font colour is kept to a basic colour black as it contrast with the background and keeping with the house style theme.
