Great Britain is situated on islands. It is washed by seas from all sides. That’s why the climate and the nature of Great Britain is very

specific. The weather is mild and foggy.

It rains very often in all seasons.

Due to the rainy and foggy weather the English are great tea-drinkers. They have it many times a day. Some Englishmen have tea for breakfast, tea in lunch time, tea after dinner, tea at tea-time and tea with supper.

Some English families have “high tea” or big tea and no supper. For high tea they may have cold meat, bread and butter, cakes, and of course, a lot of tea.

The Englishmen always drink tea out of cups, never out of glasses. They usually drink tea with milk.

Nowadays, tea drinking is no longer a proper, formal, “social” occasion. The English don’t dress

up to “go out to tea” anymore. But one tea ceremony is still very important in Britain-the Tea Break! Millions of people in factories and offices

look forward to their tea breaks in the morning and afternoon.

How tea was first drink in Britain.

By the time tea was first introduced into this country (1660), coffee had already

been drunk for several years. By 1750 tea had become the most popular beverage for

all types and classes of people-even though a pound of tea cost a skilled worker

a third of his weekly wage.

As tea drinking grew in popularity, it led to a demand for more and more

tea ware. And this resulted in the rapid growth of the English pottery

and porcelain industry.The English always drink tea out of cups or mugs, never out of glasses.

English breakfastDue to the fact that England is a cold country, English people usually eat meat at breakfast time. An Englishman's idea of a good breakfast is a following: cereal with milk, bacon and eggs or fish, hot buttered toast with jam or marmalade and a cup of coffee or strong tea with milk.

There are 5 golden rules to make the perfect cup of tea:

Use good tea; put in one tea bag or one spoon tea per person and one for the pot.

Feel the kettle with fresh water from the cold tap. Warm the tea pot.

Pour on the freshly boiled water.

Let the tea infuse for 5 minutes then stir.

Serve with milk and sugar to taste.

English people drink tea with biscuits and scones. And now the recipe of scone.

SCONES

Mix the flour and baking powder.

Add the butter, sugar, raisins, egg and milk.

Roll out the pastry to about 1cm thick.

Cut into rounds.

Bake 20 minutes in a hot oven.
