I would like to welcome everyone to ‘Sligo Live 2013’, a hugely popularand enjoyable musical celebration which has attracted deserved plauditsfor the quality and range of its acts.
The very positive public response to the 2012 ‘Sligo Live’ has given theorganisers the impetus and inspiration to maintain this excellentstandard for this year’s event, and visitors can be assured of anenjoyable an exhilarating time in Sligo’s friendly and hospitablesurroundings.
Sligo’s reputation as a vibrant cultural and tourism destination is greatly enhanced byhosting major flagship events such as ‘Sligo Live’, and Sligo Borough Council is committedto working with our local communities and key local agencies to promote and showcaseSligo at every opportunity. The year of the ‘Gathering’ provides another exciting context tothe event, as we welcome home friends and family to celebrate this showcase musical eventwith us.
Hosting events of this scale requires an enormous commitment by many dedicated people, and I would like to pay tribute to the volunteers, sponsors, organisers and other unsungheroes who contribute so much, without expectation of acknowledgement or reward. Oneambition which inspired the founding of ‘Sligo Live’ was to explore the depth and quality ofSligo’s musical tradition and heritage, and this will once again be a feature this year.
