Greetings,

If you missed our February meeting, we enjoyed a great time at the Federal Reserve. Daron Peschel from the Reserve was our keynote dinner speaker and this was our annual Academic Honors Day event. Karen dela Torre from Oracle provided our PD session on “Modern Finance, Modern Cloud”.

Thanks again to all of these folks for taking time from their busy schedules to meet with our group.

Our March meeting will be back at Houston Country Club but please take note we have pushed the meeting out a week due to the school spring break schedules. Accordingly, mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 25 when David Zervos, Managing Director & Chief Market Strategist from Jeffries & Company will be our dinner speaker. If you haven’t registered for this meeting, please visit our website at www.feihouston.org and do so.

Our sincere thanks to our sponsors who help to underwrite our March meeting. The Rand Group is our platinum dinner sponsor and Whitley Penn, is our gold social hour sponsor for our meeting. Without the generous support of our sponsors, who contribute money, time, in-kind donations, and ideas to our chapter, we could not accomplish what we do each year. Please give our sponsors preference when needing business services from these valuable partners.

Our golf outing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22 at Blackhorse Golf Club. This is a great opportunity to bring a prospective member and introduce them to the organization. Watch the website for registration.

As always, please let us know what we as a chapter can do for you.

Regards,

Academic Honors Day

On February 18, 2014 The Houston Chapter of FEI celebrated their annual Academic Honors Day at the Federal Reserve Bank (FRB) of Houston. In conjunction with the award of scholarships to twelve deserving students from area universities, The Academic Rela-tions Committee and the Scholarship Foundation Board host the scholarship winners and their deans or professors for an interest-ing day of activities designed to give the students a unique view of a selected Houston area institution as well as an introduction to FEI.

The FRB was an excellent host institution for this year’s event. The afternoon started with lunch, followed by a private tour of the magnificent FRB building. After that, we heard speeches by two informative and entertaining FRB economists. This was followed by our ever popular panel discussion, when the student award winners get to interact with four panelists from the Houston business community. During this session, the students get a nice opportunity to ask questions and to explore the many different paths their future careers might take.

At the end of the afternoon activities, we then joined the FEI Chapter meeting in time for the social hour and dinner. The award winners and the educators were recognized at our dinner and we then enjoyed hearing from Daron Peschel, the Vice President in charge of the Houston FRB.

Finally, a special thanks to the Houston FEI chapter membership as well as the individual and corporate donors to the Scholarship Foundation for making all of this possible. With your generous support, we increased our annual scholarship amount from $3,000 to $4,000 per student for a total payout of $48,000. Since inception we have awarded approximately $400,000 in scholarships.
