Mendooran Central School

PRINCIPAL’S NOTES

Thank You

As we conclude another wonderful year at Mendooran Central School, I

would like to start by thanking everyone who has made a contribution to our

school.

Firstly to our parents and community members from Mendooran who have

supported us in many special ways. Areas including reading with students in

the morning, attending P&C meetings, School Council meetings or

participating in our major events, such as the trivia night or the ANZAC and

Remembrance Day ceremonies, helping on canteen and many other areas or

occasions.

To our staff, thank you for the effort and professionalism that you have put

into your work for the whole year. From our cleaners and ground staff to

those who work in the office and our teachers and their support staff, it has

been a wonderful team effort and I believe that because of your cooperative

nature and your desire to do things better for the students that our school is

improving, year by year. Thank you all.

Finally, to our students. As a school we are blessed to have such a

wonderful cohort of students. All very different, however you come together

and create an atmosphere of respect and cooperation where everyone can

grow in their own personality and learn to their full potential.

Farewells

We farewell Mr Saunders who has been working in our HSIE department for

the past two terms. We thank Mr Saunders for the work he has done over

this time and hope to see him back in the future if the opportunity arises.

Mr Bearman, who has taught at MCS for four years in the science

department, has gradually built up his portfolio of roles within the school to

now being an integral part of the school in so many areas. From teaching a

wide range of classes as well as taking on roles such as coordinating the

SRC, Western Access in school coordinator, boys advisor, member of the

Learning Support Team, major excursion coordinator and of course,

coordinator and project manager of the state winning Great School Show-off

production. I have proudly watched you grow into a highly professional

teacher with great enthusiasm for improving opportunities for all students.

Mrs Lavender also leaves us after a year of teaching our Year 2/3/4/5 class.

Mrs Lavender has done a fantastic job of providing engaging lessons for all

her students. Again I have enjoyed watching Mrs Lavender develop her

skills as a teacher and she will be greatly missed by her class.

Finally, I wish all staff and students a safe and enjoyable Christmas with

family and friends. I look forward to working with everyone for another

successful year in 2013.

Merry Christmas everyone!

YEARS 2/3/4/5 NEWS It is with great sadness that this is the last time, I will be talking about and showing you what this

wonderful class have been doing this year. I have very much enjoyed teaching the class in 2012 and I

hope that the children have learnt as much from me; as I have from them!

We will be completing our Christmas activities this week and the remainder of class books will go home

today.

I hope that we will have a class party on Wednesday afternoon- I will send home a note tomorrow about

what to bring, where and a time if this is occurring. Have a Safe Christmas and Happy New Year.

S Lavender

Years 2/3/4/5 harvested potatoes from their organic no-dig garden last week. We steamed the home

grown spuds in their jackets and spread butter and salt all over them yum!

CANTEEN VOLUNTEERS!! We are desperate for help in the canteen in 2013. Our wonderful Canteen Manager, Sharon Abbott

and a few parent volunteers have worked tirelessly in 2012 and we have a wonderful canteen! Sadly we

had to close two days a week in Term 4 due to lack of volunteers and we would greatly appreciate it if

you could find some time (even 1 day a term) to come in and help out in 2013. Doing it with a friend

makes the day pass quickly and it is a great way to stay in touch with what is

happening at the school. On the job training will be provided, i.e. working the till and

making up wraps. We do appreciate that there are many parents with small children

who will do it in the future but if you are able to contribute now, please think about it.

We are privileged to have a canteen - lets keep it open for the benefit of all!

MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK!!

CHAPLAIN’S CHRISTMAS MESSAGE As chaplain of Mendooran Central School my first term in the school has been fantastic, the

cooperation and help of the staff and students I have appreciated very much. I’m very impressed with

the way the school operates and especially concerning the welfare of all students which is the main

area with which I’m involved.

I was reminded about the true meaning of Christmas by a simple children’s story. A little boy came

out of his bedroom every day before Christmas and would sort the presents under the tree, under the

names written on the presents. The morning before Christmas day he discovered new presents under

the tree. When he sorted them he discovered that his little sister had more presents than he had. He

pouted and ran crying with great disappointment into his room and refused to come out even for

dinner.

On Christmas day he would not come out of his room and thus missed the joy and enjoyment of his

family as they celebrated each other with gifts and to remember the greatest gift of all, to all, Jesus.

Christmas is not about getting. It’s about giving to others. In fact we celebrate Christmas every day as

we relate to each other in various ways, give of ourselves. Love is a gift to be given.

Christmas can be a very happy time for obvious reasons and it can be

sad for others, who remember lost loved ones and members of

families not present at our Christmas celebrations. That’s because

Christmas is not really about giving gifts, it’s about our relationships

and in some ways it’s a celebration of our family relationships and

friendships. Relationships are the only thing we take with us where

ever we go, and we need to treasure and nurture them.

PONY CLUB NEWS Thank you to Bev and John Woodlock who kindly donate trophies each year for the best attendance at

Rally Days – they are excellent trophies and the children really appreciate them.

If any one is interested in joining pony club next year I will have the membership forms with me at

the school Presentation Day – I would like to get memberships done as soon as possible as it

sometimes takes State Office a while to process them. Anyone who is competing or going to a camp

in January you need to remember that your membership expires at the end of December.

Well done to all our members this year who all rode really well. Special mention goes to Gina and

Emma who only joined this year and have improved so much in such a short amount of time.
