Intro
Reliable electricity is an expectation. Every yearour economy becomes more efficient and
productive. Electricity is the fundamental building
block for those efficiencies.
August 10, 1996 blackout in the Western US States: power was interrupted to approximately 7.5 million customers,
durations ranged from a few minutes to about nine hours.
costs to the regions economy ~ $2 b i l l ion .
August 14, 2003 blackout, Midwest/Northeast US & Ontario
50 million people Up to 4 days in the US
Cost estimates range between $4 b i l l ion and $10 b i l l ion

Technical feasibility Siting- Estes Park Anemometer Results
CSU Senior Researcher Michael Kostrzewa inconjunction with the Governors Energy Office(GEO) provided data collection & analysis.
Estes Park is a number 2 wind class at60 FEET. The worst is 1. Kostrzewa/GEO results for EstesPark.
Larimer County has a 40 foot height limit! Wind power classes 3 and higher are generally
considered suitable for wind power development.

Colorados Net Metering legislation requires electric
utilities to rollover excess energy generated eachmonth. Great customer SAVINGS, not revenue
At the end of one year, the excess renewable energy
generated is paid to the owner IN A MANNER DEEMEDAPPROPRIATE BY THE ELECTRIC ASSOCIATION Estes Park Light & Power pays customers an Avoided
cost ~ $0.02 per kWh. Most utilities deem zero to bethe appropriate amount.
