ABSTRACT

The Call Taxi usage is getting increased linearly and is one of the fast growing

transport businesses. Though, there are practical difficulties in availing the best and

cheap services from multiple vendors. The public users have to manually analyze and

look for the detailed data regarding the tariff each of the Vendors is charging for

different type of services. This makes the users very difficult to collate and select the

cheapest tariff with best quality of the service. In this system with more interactive,

informative and easy access web application for both the parties of the Call Taxi

business to get benefitted. The system is more transparent for the end users to access

the rentals and tariffs details and helps them to analyze the data easily by comparing

the collected date easily and choose the Vendor of their choice. The other hand, the

system also makes a platform for the vendors to reduce their maintenance and

streamline their regular operations management and make more profit out of it. The

entire responsibility of the maintenance of the application is on the side of the

application owner. The Vendor can subscribe the service and use the application. The

system also provides the facility for the Vendors to analyze their business progress by

opting for the reports features and make decisions to upgrade or change the system in

such a way that the end users opt for their service always. The system is easily

scalable to build new features.

1. INTRODUCTION

The transport industry is one of the fast growing businesses in not only the cities, but in

bigger towns too. The Cars or Taxis for rentals become the major part of the transport

business from a Business Man to Common man for multiple reasons. The boost in tourism

makes the Taxi business in linear growth. This has made the call taxi business to evolve from

local service to intercity travel to rent a car for some hours to days. This evolution has built a

competition in the market at national level. This also has created a lot of opportunities for the

common man to get more jobs by having a tie up with the taxi companies. There are some

individual who have their own cars with which they establish a contract with the companies

and get the bookings done. The companies will have some percentage of the money from the

income. There is another approach where the companies have their own cars for which they

appoint some drivers for monthly salary.

The advancements in the business model of the Call Taxi business has made the public to

make use of the services a lot. Though there is limited platform available for the common man

to get aware of the services and utilize them. Even if they are available, it is difficult for them

to compare the services and charges of one service provider with the other. This Taxi Master

Project aims at collaborating the different taxi services under one web site, which will help

the users to compare and select their preferences of taxi booking based on the criteria that

they need.

2. PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

The scope of this project is to provide a platform for the public users of the call taxi to

effectively collate and compare the tariff and the service related data of each Call Taxi

Vendor and help them to opt for the services/vendors of their wish. The also aims at reducing

the burden of the individual vendor to maintain the website and the data, by shifting the

responsibility to the application owner and thus reduces the cost for the Taxi Vendors. This

helps a lot in the situation when they does not want to run the business and shut it down for

some period, they can stop using the application and need not pay for the website.

3. EXISTING SYSTEM

Currently, each of the Taxi Service providers is having their own websites in the internet for

the end users to access and be aware of the tariff rates and also provide the features to book

the taxi’s online. There is no any feature available as of now for the users to easily compare

the rental and tariff prices of different taxi providers. In end users point of view, this is a

constraint for them and difficult to avail the taxi services for lesser cost.

Though Vendors are having their individual website for their day-to-day operations

management, it makes them cumbersome for analyzing their business progress and make

decisions on improving them. Of course, they are able to handle the daily taxi booking and

tracking of the same with their custom built application.

4. PROPOSED SYSTEM

The new system proposes a more interactive, informative and easy access web application for

both the parties of the Call Taxi business to get benefitted. It provides the transparent access

of the rentals and tariffs for the end users and helps to build a competitive environment for the

business.

This also builds a platform to make innovations in the regular operations management and

make more profit out of it. The Vendor will be able to analyze their business progress by

opting for the reports features and make decisions to upgrade or change the system in such a

way that the end users opt for their service always.

5. NEW FEATURES

5.1. Tariff Comparison:

To make the Taxi services to the next level of business in both the end users point of view and

the providers view, this Taxi Master provides the end users, the facilities to compare the

tariffs that each of the Taxi service provider is having for different variety of Vehicles in each

of the City. Also in the call taxi service providers view point, it also provides the reporting

facilities for the Call Taxi Vendors to generate and analyze their business.

5.2. Reports for business monitoring:

The reporting facilities enable the taxi vendors to analyze and monitor their business progress

and make the decisions to improve their business. By this way, the Taxi Master provides a

Win-Win situation for both the end users and the Taxi vendors by having an open platform to

run a service transparently.

5.3. Vendor Management:

The Vendor Management module eliminates the dependency or overhead for the application

owner to maintain the fare details. The application owner will provide access to the Vendors

who will manage their fares and the services. This also helps the Vendors to monitor and

improve their business/services to Customers.

6. FUNCTIONAL ARCHITECTURE

The Functional architecture explains the features available for users of each of the role that

they have in the system.

Roles: Administrator, User and Operators.

Administrator: An Administrator can manage the inclusion/deletion of a User/Vendor as

required.

Common User: The public user can compare the tariffs of different service provider and

create/cancel the bookings.

Vendor/Operation: The Vendor once added into the system by the administrator, they

can process the requests created by the user and maintain their company’s tariffs. They can

also generate the reports to analyze the business and make the decisions like, providing offers

to the users or reducing the tariffs to meet the competition.

7. SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE:

The below diagram depicts the technical architecture of the system, which contains three

layers – the Business, Data Access and Database layers.

7.1. Authentication:

The users are authenticated by the Authentication service by referring the user details stored

in the database.

Layers and Microsoft Enterprise Library blocks:

The Business and the Data Access layers are supported by the Enterprise Application

Library blocks – the Configuration, Exception and the Logging blocks.

8. IMPLEMENTATION AND RESULT DISCUSSION

Various client side validations are used to ensure on the client side that only valid data is

entered. Client side validation saves server time and load to handle invalid data. Some checks

imposed are:

• To ensure those required fields are filled with suitable data only. Maximum lengths of

the fields of the forms are appropriately defined.

• Forms cannot be submitted without filling up the mandatory data so that manual

mistakes of submitting empty fields that are mandatory can be sorted out at the client

side to save the server time and load.

• Tab-indexes are set according to the need and taking into account the ease of user

while working with the system.

Some checks cannot be applied at client side. Server side checks are necessary to save the

system from failing and intimating the user that some invalid operation has been performed or

the performed operation is restricted. Some of the server side checks imposed is:

• Server side constraint has been imposed to check for the validity of primary key and

foreign key. A primary key value cannot be duplicated. Any attempt to duplicate the

primary value results into a message intimating the user about those values through

the forms using foreign key can be updated only of the existing foreign key values.

• User is intimating through appropriate messages about the successful operations or

exceptions occurring at server side.

Various Access Control Mechanisms have been built so that one user may not agitate

upon another.

9. CONCLUSION AND FUTURE WORK

We have proposed a new transparent platform for the call taxi service, through which the

service consumer, the public user and the service vendor are getting into a Win-Win situation.

This also provides a framework for new innovations in the business model in the call taxi

service business. The system provides the data which helps to make decisions on their

business critical situations. The reporting module helps a lot for providing the decision

support data. The system is very much scalable in such a way that many new modules can be

added apart from enhancing the existing modules. The future scope can aim in providing

features for the Vendors to upload the advertisements of their own into the system. Making

the system intelligent to propose new routes in such a way to reduce the cost of the travel for

the users is an interesting part. This can be independent of the vendor. The route may include

multiple vendors in long distant routes. This will also benefit the users to avoid waiting

charges for the users. The application can also be hosted in the Cloud, to make use of the

technological advances in the infrastructure.
