Implementing a multi-centred urban structure from the current urbansystem of Galicia, which encompasses the cities and metropolitanareas, along with rural areas, is the key for the development of the holeterritory.
DiamantegallegoA territory ofopportunities
Galicia has been penalized for its peripherical position and the traditionalweakness of its urban system. One of its great options for the future is toset up a powerful urban armor which provides critical mass anddemographic and productive density in dynamic spaces.
The urban areas of Galicia have a population of 1,9 millioninhabitants (70% of the entire population of Galicia) and generatemore than 82% of regional GVA and 76% of employment.
In them, the main economic activities, the higher level facilities, themajor infraestructure communications, the most important businesscenters, etc are located. There is an opportunity to set up thefourth spanish urban areas.
