Detoxifying the body by using a colon cleanse method is not a fad or trendy new health craze. It is a serious and proven technique for improving and maintaining good health. The ancient Egyptians knew the value of colon cleansing by practicing it as far back as 1500 BC as part of their everyday health routine.

So, why is it so important for us to use colon cleansing supplements to maintain good health and high energy levels in modern times? Well, first of all, let’s take a look at six of the most common symptoms of a congested colon:

1 Constant Constipation2 Chronic Backache3 Bad breath4 Bloating/flatulence5 Fatigue6 Weight Problems

If you are a chronic sufferer of any of the above, then chances are your large intestine (colon) needs regular cleansing and detoxifying.

Why do our colons get blocked or become sluggish or dysfunctional in the first place?

Most dieticians and medical practitioners agree that high-fiber diets help correct most disorders of the colon, and keep it functioning healthily and normally. Fiber increases intestinal activity and supports the body's natural elimination processes. However, in modern times we live in a world where we mostly eat highly refined foods in our daily diet. These foods lack the fiber necessary to maintain a healthy colon.

What happens when our colon gets blocked, or becomes sluggish?

The colon is one of the body’s most important "waste disposal" organs. It is responsible for evacuating fecal waste from the body. It is therefore absolutely critical to maintain a healthy colon in order to ensure good health, to keep your weight down, and boost your energy levels.

Another result of a sluggish colon is this: When your colon becomes congested or clogged with toxic fecal waste, bowel movements become irregular and your body is unable to properly absorb vitamins and minerals from your daily food intake. You may think

you are eating well, but you are actually starving your body of the vital vitamins and minerals it badly needs in order to function efficiently. This can cause chronic fatigue and other health problems.

Why a blocked colon adds to your weight gain woes

It’s certainly not a pleasant thought, but when blocked, your colon can contain as much as 10 pounds of undigested food, fecal matter and toxic waste. Can you imagine what this deadly combination is capable of doing not only to your health on a daily basis – but also how it can add to weight problems?

As one of the body’s most critical "waste disposal" organs, a healthy, detoxified colon is therefore essential to maintaining good health, a high level of energy, and keeping weight in check. The right colon cleanse supplement, taken in conjunction with acai berry, can greatly improve and benefit any weight loss program.

Colon cleansing is an essential health routine if you suffer from any of the chronic symptoms above. Some diseases of the colon, including colitis, hemorrhoids and irritable bowel syndrome can often be treated or significantly improved by the regular use of a trusted colon cleanse remedy.reward with food. Consider tickets to a show or game, new clothes or accessories,a trip or a vacation. Experts suggest that the first small reward for staying on the right track should come within the first two weeks of the diet.

DIETING IT’S A FAMILY AFFAIR

Page 7: Smart Health

The link in obesity between parent and child is increasingly clear. Multiple members of a family can end up struggling with weight because habits and genes and habits are passed generationto-generation. Here are some ideas for how families can break the chain with an all-in-the-family diet.

Be HonestOverweight adults in a family setting shouldshould freely admit to the children that theyare not a healthy weight, and that their food(and perhaps lifestyle) choices have not beenideal. Afterwards, the parent should offerhope on how they will lose weight together, and how this can help the children’s selfesteem, school performance and health.

No More ExcusesStop rationalizing bad eating behavior, themost common being that food equals loveor that there is not enough time in a busyday to plan or prepare a healthy familymeal. Once parents recognize theseare excuses, they can move on to make theright choices for their family.

Make A PlanThe next step is to make a plan, keepingin mind that losing weight is simply a matterof burning off more calories than you consume.Set realistic weight loss goals andbuild in some time in everyone’s schedulefor some exercise.

Cook and Shop TogetherAs a family, figure out each person’s realisticcalorie intake, decide how much and whatyou want to eat each day, work out a menuthat has at least some foods each of you

likes each day, gather healthy recipes inbooks or online. Go shopping together, andgive everyone a chance to explain why somefoods are nutritious and some are bad. Keepthe kids away from “empty calories,” thehigh calories foods with little nutritionalcontent such as soda, sugary desserts, fastfood, or potato chips.

Get To The CoreAre there basic issues that cause one or allof the family members to overeat? Try to breakthe habits and triggers at school or on theplayground or at work or within the familydynamic which is causing people to use foodfor comfort or escape. If the problem isstructural – eating too late or too fast or undertoo much pressure – act to change this.

Positive ReinforcementWith success should come rewards tocreate positive reinforcement. But do notreward with food. Consider tickets to ashow or game, new clothes or accessories,a trip or a vacation. Experts suggest thatthe first small reward for staying on theright track should come within the first twoweeks of the diet.

As long as human beings have had something to risk — from sharp rocks and arrowheads to dollars and derivatives — they have gambled. The traditionally accepted reason is that gambling is fun, exciting, a little dangerous, and there is a chance of winning something big. Those who gambled too much and too often were seen as having life experiences or poor judgment or weak character that could explain the compulsion.

Why Your Brain Loves

Gambling

Now scientists are delving deeper into the effects of gambling on the brain, and findingthat excessive gambling is an addiction drivenby brain chemistry

– with similarities to drug, alcohol, food and other addictive behaviors.

The research is pointing to the neural circuitryof the brain. Scientists believe that the neuralcircuits that are manipulated by gamblingoriginally evolved to help us assess rewards, such as food, that are crucial for survival.Dopamine is the neurotransmitter involvedwith the processing of these rewards. Whenwe experience something pleasurable, suchas winning a hand of blackjack or eating apiece of chocolate cake, our dopamine neuronsget excited. These neurons help the brainlearn about the pleasure, and attempt to predictwhen that the good feelings will happen again.

Games of chance and other gambling takeadvantage of this neural system; thedopamine neurons in your brain are activatedwhen you win, and lead your brain to seekmore pleasure by trying to predict the nexttime you will win. But games and eventsare often random, unpredictable and not inyour control. In fact, casinos make sure theyare unpredictable. That is why gamblersoccasionally win but mostly the “house” wins.

Brain research also suggests a couple ofreasons why some people become gamblingaddicts. One reason is that, in some people, the dopamine neurons do not turn themselvesoff; this leads to obsession with thenext big win and the great feeling it generates. For these compulsive gamblers, the misplacedpredictions of their dopamine neurons becomeself-destructive. They are so blindedby the pleasures of occasionally winning thatthey slowly lose everything.

A second reason is that some people’s brainchemistry make them less sensitive to losingthan others. In a recent study at UCLA funded

by the National Science Foundation, researchersmade the surprising finding thatas the amount of a potential gambling lossincreases, the parts of the brain that processfear or anxiety are not activated. The biggestrisk-takers, who are willing to accept veryrisky gambles, have brains that respond lessto loss or danger as the stakes increase.

Since an estimated two million Americans arepathological gamblers, and another four to sixmillion have a signs of a serious issue, researchis increasing on the hows and whys of problemgambling. Like other addictions, compulsivegambling is a relationship, financial, and lifedestroyer. Whatever the explanation for the addiction, there are many places to seek out help.
