Rules and Regulations• In your teams, QUIETLY discuss the answer to the question on the screen. 30 seconds is

given for team discussion and at the end of this time an answer is required. – ALL teams should discuss and have an answer ready even if it is not your turn.

• If a team does not know the answer they can pass or make a guess. If they pass or the answer is incorrect, the next team gets a chance to answer the question.– If the next team gets the answer wrong, the question is given to the last team. If none of the

teams are able to get the correct answer, the answer will be presented on the screen and no points will be awarded.

• When an answer is CORRECTLY given, the team that provides the answer gets a chance to shoot for points starting with the teammate that has the number one. – As questions are answered correctly, the individual on the answering team that gets to shoot is

determined by the number they are given. Shooters will follow in number order.• POINT VALUES – 1 pt for making it in the trashcan 3 pts for making it in the hoop • FAST SHOT – if a question is a Fast Shot question and the team answers it correctly, the

teammate whose turn it is will get 20 seconds on the clock to shoot the ball as many times in an opportunity to earn more points.

• PENALTIES – if your team is talking out of turn, misbehaving, or giving another team answers, the remaining two teams will have the chance to shoot a penalty shot to earn points.

• WINNING – at the end of the period the team with the highest number of total points wins.

Question 1

• Gravity affects an object’s __________.

• Answer: Gravity affects an object’s weight

Page 4: Smart Shot

Question 2 – Fast Shot• Two factors affecting the force of gravity are:

______________ and _______________. – A. The mass of the two objects and the distance between them– B. The volume and the surface texture of the objects– C. The time of day and the state of matter of the objects– D. The chemical properties of the objects and speed of the objects

• Answer: A – The mass of the two objects and the distance between the two objects.

• Objects with larger masses have a greater force of gravity between them and objects that are closer together have a greater force of gravity between them.

Page 13: Smart Shot

Question 11

• Burning is considered to always be a ___________ change.

• A change in state or phase (ie: melting, boiling, freezing) is always considered a ____________ change.

• Answer: Chemical – cannot be reversed easily! • Physical – retain the SAME substance and can be

reversed! – PHASE CHANGE always physical property

Question 12 – Fast ShotWhen reading a graduated cylinder in order to

determine the volume of a liquid correctly you must read the _______ part of the ________. The volume in the picture is ________ mL.A. Lowest, scale, 32 mL B. Lowest, meniscus, 30 mLC. Highest, beaker, 31 mLD. Outer, meniscus, 30 mL

Answer: B – Lowest , meniscus, 30 mL

Question 13

• You have a container and you know its volume. If you know the volume of the container than you know the _______ of the gas. – A. Mass– B. Volume– C. Inertia– D. Gravity

• Answer: B – volumeA gas will assume the volume of the container because particles are free to move around

Page 16: Smart Shot

Question 14

• Which of the following DO NOT change shape in different containers? – A. Plasmas– B. Gases– C. Solids– D. None of the above

• Answer: C- Solids

Page 17: Smart Shot

Question 15 – Fast Shot

• Particles in a liquid are speeding up, gaining energy, and breaking away from one another. What change of state is occurring?

• Answer: Liquid to Gas

Page 18: Smart Shot

Question 16• State the equation for speed. What

additional information is needed to make it a velocity?

• Answer: Speed = Distance divided by the time it took to travel that distance. Distance/Time–Hint: Say miles per hour to remember

Velocity NEED to ADD DIRECTION

Page 19: Smart Shot

Question 17 – Fast Shot

• Why can the volume of a gas change?– A. The volume of a gas CANNOT change– B. There are no particles in a gas– C. Particles are very close together and cannot move – D. Particles are able to move (spread out or come close

together) because of the large amount of space between them

• Answer: D - Because there is a lot of space between the molecules

• Change in volume can occur due to change in pressure or temperature.

Question 18

• You are at Brad Pitt’s house. You decide to head West to Denzel Washington’s restaurant. In one hour you travel 65 km. Your velocity is _____________.

• Answer: 65 km/hour WEST

Question 19 – Fast Shot

• An amorphous solid has particles that are arranged in: – A. a random order– B. an orderly, repeating pattern

• Answer: A- random order, particles do not have an order or repeating pattern– A crystalline solid has particles in an orderly,

repeating pattern

Question 20• Acceleration is a change in: –A. Air resistance, friction, weather–B. Speed, velocity, direction–C. Volume, mass, weight–D. Gravity, speed, friction

• Answer: B – Speed, velocity, direction – The rate at which velocity changes. Hand motions to

help us remember: Speed up, Slow down, Stop, Turn

Question 21 – Fast Shot

• You are at an amusement park and the rush of the roller coaster passing by makes a slight breeze. You are eating lunch and notice that your napkins stay on the table. This is due to: – A. Fluid friction– B. Air resistance– C. Static friction– D. Electrical friction

• Answer: Static Friction – when a force is applied to an object but the object does not move static friction occursStatic friction balances the force applied = no net movement

Page 24: Smart Shot

Question 22• A tennis ball and a solid steel ball of the same size are dropped from the

same height at exactly the same time. Assuming there is no air resistance, which ball hits the ground first?

– A: Tennis Ball– B: Solid rubber ball– C. They would hit at the same time

• Answer: C – They would hit the same time because there is no air resistance to slow them down. – Air resistance is friction that occurs between the surface of an object and the air that

surrounds it as the object falls through the air. – Force of air resistance affects objects differently changing which object hits the ground

first. – Air resistance depends on the size and shape of the object.
