Smart View Ad Hoc Analysis Introduction

With the introduction to SmartView, business analyst, functional users and budget admin job become quite easy. Specially, the Ad Hoc Analysis made complex analysis so simple. One can use Smart View functionality with Excel spreadsheets to retrieve and analyze data by selecting members, using functions, and performing a variety of operations, including formatting, to design your reports. You can perform ad hoc analysis in Essbase, Planning, Hyperion Enterprise, and Financial Management. One can easily create highly-scalable ad-hoc query. It enables end users to develop their own reports in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and/or Microsoft PowerPoint. By simply dragging and dropping data on the page, rows or columns, data can be "sliced and diced" in exactly the way that end-users need it. Some of the sticking features.

Starting Ad Hoc Analysis

Planning Ad Hoc Ribbon Toolbar

From Recently Used, Shared Connections, or Private Connections on the Smart View Panel, do one of the following:

l. Open an ad hoc grid or Smart Slice. 2. Open a form that has been enabled for ad hoc by your administrator. From the data Provider ribbon, click Analyze. If Analyze is disabled, the form has not been enabled for ad hoc analysis.

In the above example, there are eight dimensions in the grid—two on the worksheet itself and six in the Point of View (POV) toolbar. These eight settings define what appears in your report.

Dragging and Dropping Dimension Members

You can drag and drop dimensions between rows and columns and move them in and out of the grid. You can drag and drop the dimensions to any row or column on the grid. If you drag a dimension over an existing dimension in the grid, the new dimension is placed on the outer side of the existing dimension.

To drag and drop a dimension member, use one of the following methods:

- To drag a dimension member from the POV toolbar to the grid, select the member, and drag it to

the desired location on the grid.

- To drag a dimension member from the grid to the POV toolbar, select the member in the grid,

right-click and drag it to the toolbar.

Preserving Excel Formulas in Ad Hoc Grids

You can associate Excel formulas with member and data cells in ad hoc grids and set cell styles to identify such cells.

To specify preservation of formulas in ad hoc grids:

1 From the Smart View ribbon, click Options, and then Member Options in the left panel. 2 Do one of the following:

To preserve formulas in ad hoc grids, select Preserve Formulas and Comments in ad hoc operations (except pivot).

To disable preservation of formulas, clear Preserve Formulas and Comments in ad hoc operations (except pivot). Do this only if you do not need to preserve formulas and youwant faster execution of queries.

3 Click OK.

Formatting Options

Using Smart View Formatting

Smart View formatting consists of formatting selections made in the Cell Styles and Formatting pages of the Options dialog box.

To set Smart View formatting options: 1 From the Smart View ribbon, click Options. 2 From Options, to set cell styles, select Cell Styles in the left pane. 3 To set other Smart View formatting options, select Formatting from the left pane (Use Excel Formatting on this page is not a Smart View formatting option). 4 Click OK.

To apply Smart View formatting selections to data cells created by zooming: 1 From the grid, select a formatted data cell. 2 From the Essbase, Planning Ad Hoc, or Hyperion Enterprise ribbon, select Preserve Format. In the below example, you can see the numbers are displayed in currency, and the formatting retained as “Retain Number Formatting” option is selected.

Displaying Aliases for Member Names Aliases are alternate descriptive names for database members. You can perform ad hoc retrievals using the database member name or an alias. To display aliases for member names:

1) Create Alias Table. AdministrationManagerAlias Tables.

2) Specify the alias for Dimension member as given below

Refreshing the Grid You can refresh the grid at any time to retrieve data from the connected data source into the active worksheet. For example, after you change the Point of View, you can refresh the grid to see the changes. If you want to save the Point of View settings in a worksheet, refresh the settings before you save the worksheet. To refresh the grid, perform one of the following actions:

Zooming In on Dimension Members You can drill down to various levels of data in the grid by zooming in on members. For example, if you want to view data for a specific quarter or month rather than for the whole year, you can zoom in on the [Periods] member to see more detailed data.

When you zoom in on a member, it is expanded according to the options specified in the Options dialog box. If you select the option to zoom in on all levels, the grid displays all descendants of the selected member. One can also select type (Next level, Bottom Level, All Level) of Zoom In by selecting Down arrow

Zooming Out on Dimension Members You can drill up to higher levels of data in the grid by collapsing, or zooming out to, dimensions. For example, if you previously drilled down on a dimension such as Periods to view data for October, November, and December in Q2, you might want to drill up to view aggregate data for the period. When you zoom out from December, the Period dimension is collapsed for Oct, Nov, and Dec and replaced with Q2.

Keeping Data You can modify the ad hoc grid to keep only selected dimension members. Using the Keep Only command, you keep only the selected member (the active cell) or member range within the grid, removing all unselected members from the worksheet for that dimension.

Removing Data You can modify the ad hoc grid to remove selected dimension members. Using the Remove Only command, you remove only the selected member (the active cell) or member range from the grid, keeping all unselected members from the worksheet for that dimension.

Pivoting Dimensions Pivoting changes the orientation of the data on the worksheet. You can move dimensions between rows and columns and move dimensions in and out of the grid. When you move between rows and columns, the system moves the selected dimension to the outermost row or column on the opposite axis.

To pivot a dimension or member: 1 Select a dimension or member. 2 From the data source ribbon, click Pivot. Row dimensions are pivoted to the topmost column dimension. Column dimensions are pivoted to the left-most row dimension.

Cascading Reports and Ad Hoc Grids

You can create separate reports for any or all of the members of one dimension in a report based on an ad hoc grid or Smart Slice query and cascade these reports separately across the worksheets of an Excel workbook. For reports created in the Report Designer, you can also cascade reports across slides in a PowerPoint presentation. Worksheets or slides are created as needed to accommodate all reports.

Formulas, comments and other text, Smart Slice function grids, charts, tables, and sliders are included in cascaded reports.

To cascade an ad hoc grid or Smart Slice report: 1 Open an ad hoc grid or Smart Slice report on the worksheet. 2 From the Essbase or data source ad hoc ribbon, select Cascade, and then one of the following.

Same Workbook to use the current workbook New Workbook to use a new workbook Different Workbooks to cascade each report to a different workbook

3 From Member Selection, under Dimension, select the POV dimension to use as the basis for the report. 4 Under Members, select all members of the dimension for which you want to create reports. One report 5 Click OK to begin cascading.
