WHAT IS SMART WATER?– the theory

THE BARRIERS

All Under Control?

“Too Many Alarms….”

“But It Ain’t Broke…”

Smart perhaps…but how about useful?

WHAT IS SMART WATER?– the reality?

Risk-Based Deployment

Thames Water Deployments

• Precise location of leak signal along pipe• Can locate to within 1 metre assuming length of pipe known

Automated confidence level to minimise risk of false positive alerts

Anglian Water – Summary of Benefits

• As shown, Anglian Water deployed 5 TransientMinder units in an area that was experiencing increased leakage and bursts

• The units clearly showed regular transients being generated and a high level of transient “turbulence” on the network

• The detailed resolution provided by TransientMinder, including exact geographic positioning, allowed Anglian Water to use facts to calculate the cost-benefits of the work they were considering undertaking

• After undertaking the work, Anglian Water kept the units in position and showed that the remedial work had been effective

• Anglian Water continues to monitor the network there as part of its commitment to maintaining a resilient network

• Anglian Water estimates the following benefits from this work:– 45% reduction in bursts– 59% reduction in other leaks– Reduction in distribution inputof 0.7 MLD
