Orient the Board

� Shortcut - Intelligent pen tray has a button for keyboard and mouse.

� Press both buttons to orient.

� Or…select the Smartboard icon from the system tray in the lower right corner of the desktop.

� Use pen to touch the crosses rather than your finger - more precise!

� Nothing happens until you release the pen.

� Now your finger becomes the mouse.

� You don’t have to orient everyday, but when you notice any problem or delay when writing on the board.

Notebook Toolbar

� You can move the toolbar from the top to the bottom of the screen by clicking on the double-headed arrow to the right of the tool bar. Great for shorter students (and teachers, too).

Floating Tools

� You can use Smart tools with other applications with the Floating Tools.

� You can move the toolbar from side to side by clicking on the dots on the tab.

� You can hide it by clicking on the arrow.

� Or…hide it completely by clicking on the Notebook icon in the system tray and select Hide Floating Tools.

Line Drawing Tool

� Straight line drawing tool - snaps into place

� Eraser only erases ink - doesn't erase lines

� View - zoom - 100 %

� Undo to get rid of shapes

� Put text inside bubbles - move by touching lines – double click to get text editor - text and bubble were grouped together

� Group together - lasso both items - drop down menu – grouping

� You add screen shade by clicking on the icon on the Toolbar or in the System Tray.

� You can add a screen shade to individual slides by click on the slide in the page sorter and clicking on the drop-down menu.

� Use the dimples to move the shade. You can only use two dimples at a time.

� You can’t write on the screen shade.

Table Generation Tool

� Tap outside the table and select with the marquee to get handles to resize or move.

� You can create a table with as many columns and rows as you want.

� To modify a table – select a row and then use the right click button on the tray. Then select your action.

Working with Objects

� Select an object - three handles

� Rotate – green circle

� Resize

� Use Drop down menu for editing features

Handwriting recognition

� Write with pen or finger

� Select writing – then choose Recognize choices from drop-down menu

� Your handwriting changes into text.

� You cannot use the eraser after handwriting has been changed into text. Treat the text as an object – click to select and use the drop down menu.

Ink Layer

� When using the Internet, you can pick up a pen from the tray and create a digital ink layer.

� Press the Smart capture button and the image will be captured in Notebook.

� You can insert images and text into Word, Excel, and PowerPoint using the Ink Aware toolbar in each application.

Download Notebook to your personal

computer.

� Go to http://www.smarttech.com and click on Software Downloads under Quick Links to the right of the web page.

� You can download Notebook for Windows, Mac, or Linux operating systems.

� Contact the Tech Department for the product key.

� Create a notebook file, save it to a flash drive, and insert the flash drive into one fo the USB ports on the speakers (please remove carefully). You can email the Notebook file to yourself or use web-based storage such as Dropbox or SugarSync.

Advanced -Linking

� Link to a web page.

� Link to another page in notebook.

� Link to an attachment.

� Example: Create a math question on one slide and link to the answer on another slide.

� You can link text or images.

Advanced - Gallery

� 6700 files – sorted by subjects

� Constantly updated – check for updates every 30 days

� Create your own lessons using pictures, interactive and multimedia files, and notebook content.

� Add your own content by selecting and dragging object or text to My Content.
