INSERT STACKED SLEEVES THROUGH SOFT TISSUES

The percutaneous stacked sleeve assembly isinserted through the soft tissues and placedagainst the cortex. All of the surgical steps can be performed through the stacked sleeves,which include the 8.0 mm Screw/Tap Sleeve, 4.0 mm Drill Sleeve, 1.9 mm Guide Pin Sleeve,and 1.9 mm Trocar.

INSERT GUIDE PIN

The Trocar is removed. The 1.9 mm Guide Pin isthen inserted through the Guide Pin Sleeve andadvanced into bone.

MEASURE

The 1.9 mm Guide Pin Sleeve is removed. TheDirect Measuring Gauge is placed over the guidepin and through the 4.0 mm Drill Sleeve. Thegauge is positioned directly against bone foraccurate measurement. Screw length measure-ment is read from the back of the guide pin.

Note: The Measuring Gauge is calibrated to displaythe length from the cortex to the tip of the guide pin.If you plan to bring the Reamer and screw just to the beginning of the threads on the guide pin,then subtract 10 mm from the length taken from theMeasuring Gauge. If the screw head is to be coun-tersunk, subtract an additional 5 mm from thelength of the screw.

INSERT SCREW

The 4.0 mm Drill Sleeve is removed. Using theCaptive Hex Driver, the appropriate length screw isplaced over the guide pin, through the 8.0 mmScrew/Tap Sleeve, and into bone. The Captive HexDriver can be utilized with the Power Adaptor(s),the Quick-Release Teardrop Handle, or theRatcheted Instrument Handle. The dial on theRatcheted Instrument Handle can be positionedfor three different modes: no ratchet, ratchetforward, or ratchet reverse.

• DRILLING AND TAPPING

In dense bone, predrilling and pretapping are recommended to facilitate screw insertion.Drilling 10 mm short of the screw measurementprevents the reamer from engaging the threadedtip of the guide pin thus avoiding accidentalremoval of the guide pin. The 4.0 mmCannulated Drill and 5.5 mm Cannulated Tapare used with the Power Adaptor and instrumenthandle, respectively. Drilling is performedthrough the 4.0 mm Drill Sleeve; tapping is per-formed through the 8.0 mm Screw/Tap Sleeve.

Note: The calibrations on the drill and the tap are read directly from the back of theirrespective sleeves.

• INSERT PARALLEL PINS

The Double-Barrel Pin Guide can be used toplace parallel pins. The guide is placed over theinitial guide pin and firmly seated against thelateral cortex for placement of a second guidepin. Additional pins can be inserted by referenc-ing any previously placed pin.

• WASHER SLEEVE

The Washer Sleeve is provided so that screwswith washers can be placed percutaneously. TheWasher Sleeve slips over the outside of the 8.0 mm Screw/Tap Sleeve and is seated againstbone.

SCREW EXTRACTION

Screw extraction should be performed with the Reverse Twist Hex, 3.5 mm. However, ifcomplications arise during screw extraction,the screw can be removed with the ScrewExtractor. The extractor is tapped lightly intothe cannulation of the screw and turnedcounterclockwise to facilitate removal.

The Multiple Parallel Pin Guide can be used toplace parallel pins through a larger incision.When adjacent holes are used, the spacing of theholes in the instrument prevents the screw headsfrom overlapping. Use of nonadjacent holes willprevent washers from overlapping.

• WASHER SLEEVE

The Washer Sleeve is provided so that screws withwashers can be placed percutaneously. TheWasher Sleeve slips over the outside of the 8.0 mm Screw/Tap Sleeve and is seated againstbone.
