LOA’s are typically provided to all SMP Volunteers within 5 business days. Transportation provided to active duty, with priority given to single/unaccompanied Active Duty Service Members, unless otherwise specified. Pitch Hit and Run (5/4). Assist our local youth with this great baseball skills event! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0900; will be completed around 1400. Special Olympics Spring Games (5/9). We’re looking for a TON of volunteers to help out our Special Athletes during this fun field meet!! Please meet
at the Roadhouse at 0745. We’ll return around 1330. Lunch and beverages will be provided. Chicod Elementary Field and Track Event (5/10). Help out our local students during their awesome field meet activities! Enjoy an amazing meal as
well! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0615. Will return around 1730. Beaufort Music Festival (5/17 and 5/18). Assist Beaufort Arts and Music with the Beaufort Music Festival! Volunteer activities include parking
assistance, green room, and check in. o Friday, 5/17. (10 - 14 volunteers). Meet at the Roadhouse at 1500; will return around 2130. Transportation available. o Saturday, 5/18. (10 - 14 volunteers – 1st shift). POV only. Meet at 1100 at Gallants Channel, 172 W. Beaufort Rd, Beaufort. Volunteer

Autocross (5/18 and 5/19). Assist with set-up, tear down, course operations, event monitoring (and you will get to ride with SCCA instructors). Please meet at the Roadhouse on May 18 (0645-1630) and/or May 19 (0730-1600). (Autocross will take place on Foxtrot Taxiway, off Access Road).
Semper Fit Color Run (5/18). Assist with this awesome race! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0830; will be completed around 1200. POC will be Berna Crosby.
Habitat for Humanity (5/7, 5/14, 5/21, and 5/28). Assist with Habitat’s two newest builds in New Bern. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0715; will return around 1230. Please bring bagged lunch and water source. Please wear closed toed shoes, and weather appropriate civilian attire. ***Please note that the 7 May Habitat event is a Women’s Build (but male volunteers are welcome too)!
Craven County Jaycees (Junior Chamber of Commerce) Annual Spring Fair (4/22 through 5/6). Please see our website for additional details; opportunities available daily from 4/22 through 5/6).
Animal Shelter (every Saturday): Volunteer at the Carteret County Animal Rescue. Assist with walking the dogs, meeting with potential adopters, special projects, and cleaning. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0700.
Volunteer with Riverpoint Nursing Home (every Wednesday): Volunteer with our seniors! Attire is proper civilian attire. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. Will return around 2000.
Havelock Boys and Girls Club (M – F). POV only. Volunteer with our local Boys and Girls Club! Assist with mentoring, tutoring, homework, coaching, and activities! Please contact the Boys and Girls Club at 252-444-5437 for additional details. A one-time $10 background check is required.
WWII Museum Restoration (on-going M—S; works around your schedule). Love cool history? Want to help save our WWII history?!! Learn how to restore some of the coolest artifacts and VEHICLES from WWII at the Newport WWII Museum. POV only; please contact Frank at [email protected] to set up a time to volunteer!
TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) Annual Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp (5/22 or 5/23 AND 5/24 through 5/27) POV only. Assist with this important program in Arlington VA. 500 current and former Service Members are requested to volunteer as Military Mentors. Mandatory training is Wednesday, 22 MAY OR Thursday, 23 MAY. Good Grief Camp is Friday, 24 MAY through Monday, 27 May. POV only. All meals are provided and no-cost lodging (limited) available. SMP Volunteer Appreciation Dinner and the Band Steele Concert (5/2 at 1830 at the Roadhouse): SMP is throwing a HUGE party for our volunteers, complete with a delicious (free!) Dinner, live music from the Band Steele, games, and awesome prizes at the Roadhouse! If you’ve volunteered for SMP, we want to show our appreciation to you!! (Open to all who have volunteered for SMP regardless of marital status, service branch, rank, etc.). Dinner kicks off at 1830 and live music starts at 1930!
SMP Council Meeting (5/16 at 1430 at the Roadhouse): ALL ARE WELCOME!!! SMP is YOUR program, so come fill us in on your recreation ideas, volunteering ideas, and QOL concerns.
Autocross (5/18 and/or 5/19). Pre-registration required online at www.motorsportsreg.com by 0730 on 5/13. Authorized patrons can also register day of, with a $10 late fee. Wilmington Trip (5/25. Free transportation). Visit historic Wilmington NC; tour the downtown area and the local surrounding areas! This is your trip and options include visiting the Battleship North Carolina, the historic Fort Fisher, as well as the Fort Fisher Aquarium. There are tons of restaurants, shopping, and the beautiful Carolina Beaches! Learn about the local area and local hot spots! Meet at the Roadhouse at 1000. Limited space – first registered/first served.
