Professor Steve Tsai will discuss his current work which includes process and product develop- ment of composite materials that lead to improved design practice and commercialization. He will provide design rules, show product examples and comment on typical challenges encountered in the design process. His presentation will also include the affect of combined creep and fatigue loading under various conditions and environ- ments. Dr. Kim Parnell will discuss materials and proper- ties, as well as cure modeling and monitoring. He will also provide information on delamination and cohesive elements for finite element simula- tion and comment on the challeges and opportu- nites associated with the use of composite materi- als in engineering design. You are invited to SMP’s complimen- tary Forum on Composite Materials. Once again, SMP has put together an impressive program, providing valu- able technical information on the use of Carbon Fibers to replace conven- tional materials in product design. As an emerging technology, composite materials offer unique performances for structures that combine light weight with durability. Keys to the successful utilization of composite materials are predictability in perfor- mance and cost-effective design of anisotropic, laminated structures.
