1 SNAKE HUNT – THE BOARD GAME

1.1AN INTRODUCTION TO SNAKE HUNTSnake Hunt is a single player iPhone game whereby the player will compete with the AI to get the most points by eating their prey and try to stay away from their predator.

GAME OBJECTIVE

Game involves player controlling a snake to eat as many preys as possible to gain the most points, challenging the AI.

GAMEPLAY

Players only have to swipe the screen to where they want the snake to go. For example if they want to go to the left, they will swipe left and so on.

1.2DIGITAL TO ANALOG CONVERSIONAs we need to convert the digital game to an Analog Version(paper prototype) we focused on the game mechanics and feel of the game to make it as similar as possible to the digital version.

The rest of the Game Design Document will explain on the Analog Version on why the game mechanics and game play is finalized as that.

3 DOCUMENTATION

1.3IDEATION PROCESS (INSPIRATION)

The core mechanic of the digital version of the SNAKE HUNT game is to get as many points and get to the portal within the time limit. The player can get to explore the maps and discover more interesting stuffs.

From the gameplay concept of Snake Hunt, we modified the game so that the digital game can be converted into a board game and be as similar as possible.

1.4Iterations1.4.1 Iteration One

Considering the core mechanics, we transcribe the digital game into a board game. The board game is made with some slight changes therefore it will not stray too far from the digital game.

Changes Included:- Player Movement- Player will have to go back to where they started, when the player land on

a grid around their predator (Oroboros Concept)- 2 Players, 1 acting as an AI

DRAFT

Playtest Results: 3 Play TestersFeedbacks From Play tester

Player pieces are too big.

Changes with the structure of the game

Playing in circles.

The snake and crow power cards are redundant as they can only use it after one another to be efficient.

Snake can only have camouflage card where the other 2 player could have other power card for them to continue playing

If all the players died, defeat the purpose of the game.

1 player game better

1.4.2 Iteration TwoContinuing with the same gameplay concept, but added more features into the board game.

Changes included:- Area of effect each player piece- 3 decks of cards for each player

Card Added- Attack Cards- Defence cards

Playtest Results: 2 Play TestersFeedbacks From Play tester

Illawarra tested the game with new structure whereby we focus on the game mechanics and not the game feel.

The predator must have a bigger area of effect than prey.

Think should draw the outline of area of effect When the animals die ,cover it

1.4.3 Iteration ThreeAfter observing the play testing by ourselves, numbers of the changes were made. More elements are added to the game. Thus, the game feel changed, but still maintaining its original core mechanics.

Purpose of the changes:- One player (1x1)- Time Limit : 3mins

2mins 30secs is too short for the player- Flipping of a coin (Area of effect)

o Crow (3x3)§ Head – Chased the crow and caught the crow, 1 point is earned§ Tail – Chased the crow but the crow escape and fly away
