A few words from the Club President
Great equipment doesn’t necessarily mean that you will take world class photos. But fortunately, the reverse is also true. World class photos don’t always require great equipment.
I say that as a preface to this: I have been too busy, most of this year, to take any photographs! Thinking about that statement I realized that it was really my own fault that I haven’t gotten more photographs because almost every waking minute of the year I have had a camera with me. It may not have been my Canon 40D and I may not have had my good lenses but photography is, in my opinion, more about the photographer than it is about the camera. I al-ways have my camera phone with me and most of the time I have my Canon PowerShot point and shoot with me. All I need to do is click the shutter a little more in the moments between the rush.
OK, so how do we put this new philosophy into effect. First, always remember that you have a camera with you. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said, “Gee, I wish I had had a camera with me!”, when in fact, I actually did have a camera of some kind with me and didn’t think about it.
Second, just because you’re not at the Grand Canyon or at a glamorous event or don’t have a beautiful model doesn’t mean that you don’t have anything worth shooting. You can shoot everyday things in innovative and creative ways and pro-duce some awesome pictures.
Third, Take the Shot!! Just because you have a camera with you and you see something worth shooting doesn’t mean that it will automatically move to your memory card. You have to pull out the camera and pull the trigger. Not really so hard.
Finally, don’t be disappointed that every shot isn’t a keeper. Even with great equipment great photographers throw away most of their shots. Shoot as much as you can and there will be some shots that you will be proud of and want to share.

Jackson Hospital provided a room for the club to hold the studio light-ing workshop which is deeply appreci-ated along with all of Don’s hardwork

CAPITAL CITY CAMERA CLUB MEMBERS PARTICIPATEIN SCOTT KELBY’S SECOND ANNUAL WORLDWIDE PHOTOWALK!
On July 18, 2009, Montgomery was one of many cities throughout the world to participate in Scott Kelby’s 2nd Annual Worldwide Photo Walk. Approximately 40 photographers (professionals and different levels of amateurs) met at Court Street Fountain in downtown Montgomery. For two hours, participants roamed the downtown area photographing things of interest.
Forty photographers – in all sorts of stances – some were laying on their backs, some were on their stomachs or knees – while others were looking up into the sky and others were slumped over an object of interest. Boy, did we evoke curious looks and some questions like: Who are you people? What are you doing? Why is that guy taking a picture of that ATM machine? The walk concluded at Dreamland BBQ (newly relocated to downtown Montgomery). Those that were interested in socializing and sharing their photos with fellow walkers were invited to do so at Dreamland.
Afterwards, participants were encouraged to select two of their favorite shots to submit to the local level. One photo from each city will be selected to go to worldwide level. One photograph will be picked as the winner.
I enjoyed the walk very much – I met some new people, spent time with fellow club members, tried to look at Montgomery creatively and stirred up some curiosity.

I was working in Birmingham and Talladega all day long. I missed the morning workshop and almost missed the PhotoWalk. I arrived 45 minutes after the shoot began and found parking to be nonexistent. It was interesting to see cameras pointed all over the cityscape and tripods “walking” along sidewalks and disappearing into alleyways. I saw several familiar faces as well as photographers I have not met. People making their way to River-front Stadium or one of the nearby watering holes curiously watched the bevy of shutter-bugs explore the vicinity of Commerce Street. Police officers kept watch as they cruised the area in preparation for the evening’s Biscuits game. When the final moments allotted for the shoot expired, I chose to pursue food and relaxation at home.
