Click the L3 config in the OLT config to enter the interface shown as 4-16. DHCP (Dynamic Host

Configuration Protocol), adopts server/client communication mode, the client addresses application, the

server returns the config info for client, such as IP address, so that the dynamic allocation of IP address

and other config realizes. There’re 3 strategies for IP address allcocation:

Manual:Administrator allocates a fixed static binding IP address for specific user (such as www

server)

Automatic: DHCP allocates an IP address with indefinitely long lease time.

Dynamic: DHCP allocates an IP address with term of validity to the client, when the serveice time is

finished, the client needs to renew the address. Most of the clients get this kind of dynamic address.

4.4.7 RSTP Set

RSTP(Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol) is defined in IEEE802.D, the basic thought is to generate “a tree”,

in order to eliminate the loop in network. The root is a switch called Root Bridge, the tree is generated

level by level from Root Bridge, and the root bridge will send config messages to ensure the stability of

the tree.

STP(Spanning Tree Protocol) defines these concept such as Root Bridge, Root Port, Designated Port,

Designated Bridge, Path Cost. STP makes only one active link exsist between any two nodes in network

topology, other redundant links block, so the network loop is eliminated, broardcast storm is restrained.

Only when the active link is failing, backup link will be enabled, and recover the connection between

devices, ensure the network operate smoothly.

As the evolution editon of STP, RSTP makes 3 improvments:

Set up replace port and backup port for Root Port and Designated Port, when Root Port/

Designated Port loses efficacy, replace port and backup port will forward without delay.

In the point to point link which only connects two exchange ports, Designated Port can forward

without delay by hand shake with downstream bridge. In the shared link which connects 3 or above

bridges, the downstream bridge will not respond the hand shake sent by upstream Designated Port,

can only wait double Forward Delay time.

Connect to the master directly, do not define the ports with bridge connecting as edge port. Edge

port can forward without delay. Because the bridge can not know if the port is directly connected to

master, so manual config is needed.

RSTP has a great improvement on convergence rate to supply a gap of STP, HIOSO EPON system

supports RSTP protocaol. Click RSTP set in ONU interface to config RSTP, shown as Figure 4-32.

Figure 4-32 RSTP Set

The params of RSTP set is decribed as Table 4-9.

Table 4-9 RSTP Params Description

Item Description

Mode Enable or disable RSTP, after enabling, a part of network resource will be

occupied, the default setting is disable

Priori

The priority value dicides if the bridge can be selected as Root Bridge.

The bridge with lower value can be designated as Root Bridge, if all the

bridges in the network adopt the same priority, the bridge with smallest

MAC will be selected as Root Bridge. When the RSTP protocol is

enabled, if config the bridge priority, will cause the recalculation of RSTP.

The range is 0-65535, the default setting is 32768.

Max Age

Config the Age time of messages. If the time is too short, the calculation

of RSTP will be frequent, if the time is too long, the link failure will not be

discovered immediately. The user can config the time according to the

practical network situation, the default is recommended. The range is

6-40s, the default is 20s.

Hello Time

The Hello Time of messages. If the time is too short, the bridge will send

the config message frequently, the network and the CPU will be over

burdened; too long, the bridge will think there’s link failure problem

because of the packet loss, cause the recalculation of RSTP. The default

is recommended. The range is 1-10s, the default is 2s.

Forward Delay

The RSTP adopts state transition. RSTP protocol defined port status

has: Discarding, Learning, Forwarding. Forward Delay happened in

Discarding and Learning status. If the value is too small, will cause

temporary redundant path, if the value is too big, the network may not

connect again in a long time. The default is recommended, the range is

4-30s, the default is 15s.

The values of Hello Time, Forward Delay and Max Age of Root Bridge

should fulfil the fomula below:

2*(Forward Delay -1s)>=2*(Hello Time+1s), or the network will shock

frequently.

After enabling RSTP, the user can check the related params and status in RSTP interface, make the

management more convenient.

Chapter 5 Bridge Mode Config

5.1 Overview

HIOSO EPON products support many Bridging Modes, these modes have many flow processing modes,

have their particular application contexts. The user could use these Bridging Modes flexibly to meet

specific business requirements.

The terms in Bridging Modes, the description is as followed:

Shared: Several ONU could share one domain. Shared domain would establish an additional

logical link for flood flow.

Dedicated: The domain that only one ONU could have. Could regard it as a point to point

channel.

Priority:Priority mode can use different logical links, can transmit multiple flow which classified

by Priority to PON port, this mode is widely used in QoS.

Transparent: VLAN tag can not be changed.

Translated: According to the mapping relationship between client side VID to network side VID,

VLAN tag could be changed. The two VID could be different.

Single: “Single” is difined against VLAN tag of the frame. “Single” mode would ban VLAN tag of

client side, and add one tag only, make sure there is only one VLAN tag in passing frame.

Double: Double mode would add one VLAN tag to received frame, the received frame could be

single or stacking. The user frame could probly have no tags, then no tags would be added to the

frame, similarly, after the frame is adding a tag, the total tag quantity won’t exceed 2.

5.2 Bridge Mode

Considering practical situation, this chapter would only give detailed introduction to some usual bridge

modes, others are in short introduction, the one who’s interested, please operate after reading related

material, please understand.

5.2.1 Simple Bridged

In Simple Bridged Mode, the action of OLT is similar to bridge, however, OLT would distinguish two port

types: network side port and client side port, in order to reduce flood flow. The network side port connects

the OLT with upstream equipment, such as edge router or switch. The client side port is equal to specific

Page 43: SNMP User Manual 2010.07.09

LLID (Logical Link ID). The forward list of Simple Bridge adopts dynamic learning or static adding. All link

default is this mode. The downstream of simple bridged doesn’t support VLAN, but the user can enable

VLAN support via option “Allow VLAN Taged Framer on Simple Bridge”, and this option is recommended.

The default Bridge Mode is Simple Bridge, click Window/OLT→Bridge Mode to config, select the link

need to be config in [Select], then select Simple Bridge in <Select>, and click <Apply>, the config is

shown as Table 5-1.

5.2.2 Shared VLAN

Shared VLAN mode allows several links to transmit same VLAN tag.

Customized VLAN tag shall be added to user's data frame upstream.( if existed already, alternate;

customized VLAN shall be untagged downstream so as to ensure of data received by user without VLAN

tag.)

For data frame downstream with VLAN tag and unlearned destination MAC, OLT will retransmit it to all

the links marked with this VLAN. But selecting "Discard Unknown MAC Addresses” will impact this action.

The process is as follows:

Select OLT in Chasis interface, click Window/OLT or click OLT in the config zone to enter the

config interface, then select [Bridge Mode] to enter Bridge Mode config interface, shown as

Table 5-1.

Select the link need to be config in [Select], then select Shared VLAN in <Select>, shown as

Talbe 5-2.

After the Shared VLAN is slected, see the interface shown as Table 5-3, select [set], the CoS

and VID would turn into white, input the VID number and click <Apply>, the link address would

be displayed in VLAN tag on the right, shown as Table 5-3.

[Entry] is the maximum MAC that the OLT can learn, also can be set.

5.2.3 Transparent VLAN

Under Transparent VLAN Mode, the message will be forwarded unchanged, this mode could guarantee

the VLAN tag of the client side. Under this mode, each link can support 62 VLAN tag at most.

Upstream, Transparent VLAN Mode is similar to Simple Bridged Mode: OLT will not test the validation of

the data frame, and will not learn the source address of the upstream data frame.

Downstream, when the tagged frame reaches to OLT Uplink port, OLT will compare the tag with the set

tag. If match, OLT forward the data to related link unchanged, discard the data untagged or unmatched.

The process is as follows:

Select the OLT in Chassis interface, click Window/OLT or click OLT in config zone to enter OLT

config, select [Bridge Mode] to enter Bridging config, shown as Table 5-1.

Select the link in [Select], then select Transparent VLAN in <Select>, shown as Talbe 5-4.

After selecting Transparent VLAN, see the interface shown as Table 5-5, to transparent transmit

single VID or some disjunct VID, input the VID in [To] in the first line and click <Add>→<Apply>,

if the VID is serial, input starting IP in [From], and input end IP in [To], click <Add>→<Apply>.

The VID can be shown under [VLAN tags for current link]

The single VID and serial VID can not be config at the same time.

If the adding VID is in the serial VID group, the user must use the Delete button below to delete.

5.2.4 Link Cross-connect

Link Cross-connect can connect two links straightly belongs to different ONUs and, to set private channel.

In the direction of upstream, the flow of a certain link will be changed to downstream of a certain link, not

to be forwarded to OLT or other ONUs. Under this mode, the dara frame will not be changed.

For example: To config ONU with MAC 785c72000002 and ONU with MAC 0eab70007940, the process

is as follows:

Select the OLT in Chassis interface, click Window/OLT or click OLT in config zone to enter OLT

config, select [Bridge Mode] to enter Bridging config, shown as Table 5-1.

Select 785c72000002 in [Select], and select Link Cross-connect in [Select],shown as Table 5-6

The two links must be set to Link cross-connect

It is normal to fail when you first click <Apply>, repeat the process.

5.2.5 Dedicated Double VLAN

Under Dedicated Double VLAN mode, if data frame from customer end has VLAN tag, data frame

enters OLT end core network will have double or more VLAN tags. If data frame customer end has no

VLAN tag, then add tag, and data frame downstream will be transmitted based on VID. The config is

same as Dedicated Single VLAN.

5.2.6 Double Tagged Shared VLAN

Double Tagged Shared Vlan can connect two links straightly belongs to different ONUs and, to set private

channel. In the direction of upstream, the flow of a certain link will be changed to downstream of a certain

link, not to be forwarded to OLT or other ONUs. Under this mode, the dara frame will not be changed.

5.2.7 Translated VLAN

Under Translated VLAN Mode, in the direction of upstream, OLT will change the tag and LLID of the user

into new, unique network VLAN tag. And OLT will do the opposite in the direction of downstream, return

the unique network VLAN tag into user VLAN tag and unique LLID, the untagged data frame will be

discarded.

There’s conflict between Translated VLAN Mode and Priority Copy Shared/Double/Single

VLAN, the PriorityCopy should be disabled.

5.2.8 Priority VLAN

Priority VLAN Mode uses downstream data frame’s VID to select corresponding ONU, and 802.1P priority

field is used to select unique link in ONU. IPv4 TOS field can be used to select link, too. Priority VLAN

Mode permits priority message of client side (including IP Precedence / TOS) to be mapped to a unique

link. On the network side, service class is mapped to VLAN priority.

Upstream data frame's VLAN tag is subject to destination link, composed of VID and Upstream CoS.

Similar as Dedicated Single VLAN, VLAN is untagged before frame is sent. VLAN is only determined

considering priority.

www.hioso.com Tel: 0086 755 83128820 Fax: 0086 755 83151488 Email: [email protected] Add:6th Floor,12th Building,Wangtang Industrial Zone,Xingao Road,Xili,Nanshan District,Shenzhen

42

The data frame forwarding in the direction of downstream includes two steps. Firstly, VID is used to select

a link group in ONU, sencondly, the priority is used to select right link among these links. VLAN can be

determined by a single priority or serial priority range (as [3, 5]). If the frame’s priority is unset, the frame

will be discarded.

Same VID can be only shared by links of same ONU.To use IPv4 TOS, there should be only one

link with "Non-IP" enabled. This link generally has the lowest priority and is applied to data

communication.

43

5.2.9 Priority Shared VLAN

Under this mode, each bit of the VLAN tag can be used to descripe a VLAN. VID is used to select a ONU

group, 802.1P (CoS field)is used to select a unique link subclass (VLAN) from the ONU group. IPv4 TOS

field, as an optional field, can be used to select VLAN, too. The downstream broadcast domain is

identified by a combination of the VID and an inclusive range of upstream priority field values, such as [0,

4].

Compared with Shared VLAN mode, this mode’s downstream forwarding can be set by IPv4 TOS field, so,

this mode is more flexible. The typical application of this mode would be the same as that of Shared

VLAN. That is, Priority Shared VLANs can be used to segment the PON based on service class. For

example, one shared VLAN may serve voice traffic, while another may serve data.

Upstream, VLAN comprises of VID and Upstream CoS. (can be set, which is Upstream CoS option).

Upstream CoS value is different, even the VID is the same, the flood link is different. If a certain link is

under Priority Shared VLAN mode, will insert related VLAN tag to received data frame. The same as

Shared VLAN mode, OLT can learn L2 SA source address, to ensure the forwarding of downstream’s

data frame.

Downstream, it is more complicated for OLT to forward data frame. VID is used to select UNI port

subclass of ONU, priority field (ToS or CoS) is used to select a smaller link subclass (VLAN domain) from

UNI port subclass, L2 DA is used to select related link from VLAN domain. If the L2 DA of the frame is not

learnt, OLT will broadcast the data frame to VLAN domain.

The administrator must ensure that no two links with the same destination ONU UNI port are

configured in the same Priority Shared VLAN.

Groups of LLIDs with the same VID can not be provisioned with matching or overlapping priority

ranges. Downstream forwarding decisions are based on VID and ToS (or CoS). Therefore,

provisioning groups of LLIDs with the same configurations will create forwarding problems.

Furthermore, all values within the downstream (ToS or CoS) range should be provisioned.

If IPv4 ToS is used as the priority field, one link must be provisioned for forwarding non-IP

frames. This link is usually the lowest priority link

44

5.2.10 Transparent Priority Shared VLAN

This mode is the identical to Priority Shared VLAN in terms of provisioning and classification of traffic in

both directions. The difference is that this mode does not strip VLAN tags in the downstream direction. It

uses the VLAN for classification, but does not remove the tag. Downstream frames from the UNI ports

retain their tags.Refer to the figure below. The restrictions that apply to Priority Shared VLAN also apply

to this mode.

5.2.11 Priority Simple Bridged

This mode is used to further classify Simple Bridged traffic, Only unicast traffic is prioritized.

This mode is similar to Simple Bridged mode, but can differentiate services by IPv4 ToS. The user can

name the priority for each link, to refine classification of data. However, this mode doesn’t support frame

with VLAN tag, thus the data classified by CoS is not supported. When the ToS is 0, the IP and Non-IP

packet are grouped together, OLT would execute priority clsssification on downstream only, and the

desination MAC of the packet must be learnt, means the MAC must be in MAC list, The data frame will be

discarded if the priority is out of range.

Priority Shared VLAN mode and Priority Simple Bridge mode should never be provisioned

together on the same ONU.

The option “discard the unknown MAC” will affect the forwarding under this mode.

5.2.12 Dedicated Single VLAN

Upstream, if the data frame is with VLAN tag, it will be replaced by customized VLAN, if the data frame is

without VALN tag, add customized VLAN tag. Downstream, Dedicated Single VLAN will strip the VLAN

tag, but the forwarding under this mode is only based on VID.

5.2.13 Transparent Shared VLAN with Broadcast

Transparent Shared VLAN with Broadcast (TSVB) divides PON into several domains, each domain

supports one or several links under this mode. Upstream and downstream, VLAN tag will not be changed.

Every link under TSVB mode shares one broadcast channel, this channel is as the same as the channel

under Simple Bridged mode.

Upstream, OLT directly forwards the received data frame (whether with VLAN tag or not) unchanged, and

Page 51: SNMP User Manual 2010.07.09

HiOSO EPON SNMP software user manual

www.hioso.com Tel: 0086 755 83128820 Fax: 0086 755 83151488 Email: [email protected] Add:6th Floor,12th Building,Wangtang Industrial Zone,Xingao Road,Xili,Nanshan District,Shenzhen

45

learns the source address of the data frame.

Downstream, when OLT uplink port receives tagged data frame which belongs to TSVB group, OLT will

forward with tag unchanged. Data frame with unknown destination address will be forwarded to broadcast

channel, each link in TSVB group will forward this frame, and so do other links that forward broadcast,

including Simple Bridged link,Priority Simple Bridged link, etc. If DA of frame is in MAC list, the frame will

be transmitted to related link.

5.2.14 Priority Copy

Priority Copy has three members: Priority Copy Single VLAN, Priority Copy Double VLAN and Priority

Copy Shared VLAN.

1、Priority Copy

Priority Copy permits the network operator to set the priority field of VLAN tag on the network side (COS),

these priorities is input on the basis user frame, VID and COS can be allocated. With Priority Copy

function, the network adnimistrator selects either one or two priority fields as the priority source from the

UNI input frames. These fields are known as "Priority A" and "Priority B". Both fields are programmable.

For example, the Class of Service (CoS) field in the VLAN tag can be provisioned for Priority B, and the IP

Precedence or Type of Service (ToS) field in the IP header can be provisioned for Priority A.

Upstream, data frame’s priority field (COS or TOS) is called input priority value, and by TOS/COS

mapping list, output priority value can be determined on the basis of the input priority value, output priority

value will be included in network side VLAN tag added be OLT. When input priority value and output

priority value match, input priority value is a “priority copy” of output priority value. Certainly, output priority

value can be set to many different values, means the mapping between input priority and output priority

can be random.

When the COS and TOS are used, upstream, the priority field of data frame is called input priority, and the

output priority can be determined by TOS/COS mapping list on the biasis of input priority, output priority

will be included in network side VLAN tag added by OLT.

Page 52: SNMP User Manual 2010.07.09

HiOSO EPON SNMP software user manual

If Translated VLAN mode is configured for any LLID in the PON, Priority Copy option cannot be used.

The first condition of configuring one mode in Priority Copy group is enableing Priority Copy.

The config interface is shown as Figure 5-8.

Figure 5-8 Priority Copy Priority Mapping

Designate the weight Mode A and Mode B in mapping list, see Table 5-1

Table 5-1 Priority Copy Weight

Option Description

Mode A Only Only Mode A can determine output priority

Mode B Only Only Mode B can determine output priority

Mode A over B Both A and B can, A dominates

Mode B over A Both A and B can, B dominates

When the two domains are without set value, default value is enabled. For example, if TOS has

designated to input priority, the received data frame is not IP frame, the default value is output priority;

similarly, if COS is input priority, the received data frame has no VLAN tag, the default value is output

priority. Priority Copy can be used to reverse priority stragety. For example, in a certain program, lower

numerical value stands for higer priority traffic, Priority Copy can reverse it, let higher numerical value

stands for lower priority traffic.

2、Priority Copy Single VLAN

Priority Copy Single VLAN is as the same as Dedicated Single VLAN on forwarding, except the new

adding Priority Copy function.

3、Priority Copy Double VLAN

Priority Copy Double VLAN is as the same as Dedicated Double VLAN on forwarding, unless the new

adding Priority Copy function.

4、Priority Copy Shared VLAN

Priority Copy Shared VLAN is as the same asShared VLAN on forwarding, unless the new adding Priority

Copy function.

5.3 Bridge Mode Option

The forwarding of Bridge Mode maybe affected by the option in “Bridge Mode advanced”.

5.3.1 Discard Frame with Unknown MAC

After enabling the option, OLT will discard downstream data frame with unknown (not learnt) MAC. When

the MAC of data frame is unknown, and multicast in destination address is set, OLT will forward the data

frame to multicast link. The default setting is disabled, OLT will forward frame with unknown MAC to

broadcast or multicast link on the basis of config mode. OLT will learn and save destination MAC from

upstream data frame, in order to realize quick message forwarding both in upstream and downstream.

The range of muilticast MAC is as follows:0x01 00 5E 00 00 00 ---- 0x01 00 5E FF FF FF

5.3.2 Simple BridgedForward Data Frame with unknown VID to Simple Bridged

Commanly, when VID of data frame is unset, which means VID is unknown to OTL, OLT will discard these

frames. After enabling this option, downstream, OLT will forward frame with unknown VLAN tag to the link

under Simple Bridged mode, not discard, the default setting of OLT is discard. Unknowm VLAN tag

means undefined VID.

Under Simple Bridged mode, whether this option is enable or disable, OLT will not discard upstream

tagged data frame.
