Thanksgiving is the most exciting

time of the year. The most

thankful moment would be when

you have a feast and all of your

family and friends come over. It

is when you laugh at their not-so-

funny jokes, when you give them

hugs to show you care. When

you eat like you just don’t

care. When they kiss you and

pinch your cheeks to show

that they care. These are all things part of

Thanksgiving. Some people don’t like Thanksgiving,

but my opinion is Thanksgiving is awesome.

This week’s featured musical:

NEWSIES

By Anonymous-Even-Though-You-Can-Most-Likely-Guess-Who-It-Is-But-Being-Anonymous-

Sounds-Cooler

Since I saw this most recently; just before school started, I

felt it fitting to make this a show the column focuses on.

The musical from the wonderful minds of Alan

Menken, Jack Feldman, and Harvey Fierstein based on the

actual newsboy strike of 1899, only very recently took to

the Great White Way. The main character is a young man

named Jack Kelly, played (in the original cast) by Jeremy

Jordan. He has a job selling newspapers, along with many

other boys of various ages. The money he makes barely

allows him to survive. Jack has a dream of someday making

it to Santa Fe, but the harsh environment and working

conditions are not helpful in allowing him to achieve that

dream.

The plot thickens when the price of papers increases,

causing the “newsies” to go on strike. (Newsies have to buy

papers from a company to sell, and if the price increases,

they can’t buy- and therefore sell- as many newspapers).

Corey Cott, the actor that I saw as Jack Kelly, delivers a

magnificent, awe-inspiring performance in “The World Will Know” that I am

not able to do justice to simply using words. He shows such anger and such

passion that I was brought to tears upon witnessing this performance.

Act I ends with a reprise of “Santa Fe”, in which Jack sings of his dream.

The audience was left intrigued and empathetic for the characters as they

eagerly awaited the second act. Upon returning from the intermission, the cast

delivers a consistently phenomenal performance, with some of The best

choreography on Broadway today. Kara Lindsay plays Katherine, the female

lead, opposite Corey Cott. The two characters, of course fall in love. Act II

shows us the progress of the newsboys’ strike, and Jack’s inner conflicts; for he

must decide if he wishes to leave for Santa Fe or continue leading the strike.

Each performance leaves anyone watching

it feeling more and more compassion for

the characters.

“Newsies” is an entertaining and

inspiring musical with great music and

fantastic choreography, and a good show

for people of all ages to go see.

swear because of our parents

using foul language in front of

us. This is a bad example to us

and then to our kids/friends/

conclusion we swear because we

think we are very awesome and

swearing is funny, but we really

shouldn’t swear.

what this book series is, so I’ll start

off with the first book and work my

way up the series. This is the first

book in the Lorien Legacies series,

and it is narrated in the perspective

ber Four?‖ and ―This is so confus-

ing.‖ Well I’m here to clear the air

I Am Number Four book review By Jarred Woodward

Lab Rats on Disney XD

Now I know that your hearts all must

be racing in excitement right now

because of this article. But fear not.

Your lives will be spared. I am here to

tell you everything on this current

season of the smash hit TV show:

GLEE!!!!!

Well, let us start off with the season

premiere. In the 2-part season premiere

it was a one and only Beatles tribute!

After the New Directions won at

Regionals against the Hoosierdaddies,

(I think the judges we’re picked at the

last minute, they should have tied at

least) Kurt stays in Lima for Blaine,

and when they are having a picnic in

the courtyard, Blaine and Kurt sing a

Beatles duet and then they get back

together. While Blaine try’s to find a

way to get the New Directions, The

Warblers, and Vocal Adrenaline to

prepare a number so Blaine can

propose to Kurt, Senior Prom is among

us and Tina and Kitty are prom queen

candidates, Kitty is determined to help

Tina win. In New York, Rachel is so

excited that she got her dream role on

Broadway, Funny Girl. But when prom

is finally here, the candidates are all

excited to find out who won and it

turns out its Tina! But when she gets

her crown, the new head Cheerio, Bree,

dumps a huge bucket of red dye slushy

all over her! Kitty lends Tina her dress

and they sing 2 last Beatle songs and

the episode ends. In the saddening third

episode, the wake of Finn's sudden

death has old friends return to

McKinley to grieve in the only way

they know, by singing. Kurt, Burt and

Carole sort out Finn's belongings; Sue,

Santana and Puck seek guidance as

their anger and pain over Finn's death

frustrates them; Will and Beiste assist

in helping everybody else grieve but

Emma realises that Will isn't allowing

himself time to cry and Rachel makes a

return to McKinley, presenting the

Glee Club with something meaningful.

It took about three weeks after that for

the 4th episode, ―A Katy or A Gaga":

Nationals is in six weeks and Mr.

Schue has just got the secret setlist of

the New Direction's competition at

Nationals. One of the show

choirs, Throat Explosion proves to be a

threat, and so, Will gives the Glee Club

an assignment: Katy Perry or Lady

Gaga. The Katy's will sing Gaga songs

while the Gaga's will sing Katy songs.

Given the assignment, Sam is eager to

use it to improve the chances of him

and Penny getting together, Marley

struggles to become a Gaga and

impress Jake and Sue and Bree have

bad plans, involving the Glee Club. In

New York, Kurt's Madonna Cover

band is in development as one stunning

performer, Elliott "Starchild" Gilbert

(a.k.a. ADAM LAMBERT!!) ,

auditions, causing Kurt to become

conflicted. But in the 5th episode, ―The

End of Twerk‖, Mr. Schue takes this

opportunity to let the Glee Club to

explore the ― ―dance of the century‖,

twerking. But Sue is already on her

way to ending the Twerk at McKinley,

igniting the war between her and Will

one step further. Furthermore, at

McKinley, tension and drama arises as

Unique continues to be harassed and

bullied as she enters the boy's bathroom

and Jake and Bree's affair is finally

revealed to Marley. In New York,

rebellion is in the air after Rachel takes

a risk with Funny Girl and convinces

Kurt to get tattoos, however, for both

Kurt and Rachel, rebellion often comes

with a risk. The Glee Club also does

another tribute to one Mister, Billy Joel

in the 6th episode. Graduation is coming

soon and Sue begins an annual Careers

Fair for students to explore careers and

dreams to pursue. However, there isn't

anything supporting the Arts and

Theatre and Will assigns the Glee Club

with Billy Joel music, a person who

struggled as an artist but managed to

pursue his dreams and become a well-

known star. At McKinley, Artie

attempts to help Becky take a chance

with college against Sue's decision to

keep her at McKinley and Jake's

attitude after Marley dumped him

worsens, with Ryder deciding to

interfere. Blaine and Sam depart to

New York for a week to prepare for

their careers: Blaine's audition for

NYADA and Sam's interview for his

scholarship at Hunter. However, due to

Sam's lack of passion for college,

Rachel assists in Sam's career in male-

modeling and Blaine has a change of

heart to what he wants to do in the

future. Then in the confusing, and

interesting 7th episode, Blaine becomes

incredibly controlling when the time

comes for the Glee Club to brainstorm

ideas for the upcoming National

Championships. When he decides to

ask Kurt for more advice, Kurt calls

him a "Puppet Master", forcing Blaine

to become more controlling and

furious. Back in New York, Kurt has

trouble, being a puppet master himself

as he attempts to find a venue for

Pamela Lansbury's first gig, to which

his other bandmates aren't too keen

about. At McKinley, Jake gets a

shocker from Bree and Sue struggles

with her femininity. They end with the

most dumbest song known to man,

―The Fox‖.

I hope that this was a catch-up on Glee

if you haven’t seen this season.
