Dear Friends of Pine Point, Tonight, we celebrate everything that is wonderful about Pine Point. This event offers not only the opportunity to raise money for some very special causes, but also to renew our journey to the future with unity of purpose. What makes Pine Point the very special place it is is our exceptional faculty. Through thick and thin they strive to provide each student with the opportunity to maximize their abilities. The faculty are the heart and soul of Pine Point. We're grateful that these talented and dedicated individuals continue year after year to bring out the very best in all of the students, developing their strong minds and caring hearts. Together, let’s send a strong message to show the teachers how much they really mean to us. Proceeds from the evening will allow us to expand and strengthen a number of our teaching tools from new iPads and microscopes to a new kiln and "great fit" books for our youngest students. As well, we're determined to secure funding for the faculty's professional development for the next two years. Let's make sure that this year's Snow Ball is not only a great time, but also a great success for Pine Point! On behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you for joining with us at the Ocean House to support the faculty and Pine Point. Harvey DeMovick, Jr. President, Pine Point School Board of Trustees

Mission Statement

Page 5: Snowballprogram2014

Dear Friends of Pine Point, Last summer, I dedicated some time to re-read the book Democracy and Education by John Dewey. Although this book was written in 1917, I was reminded that Dewey’s progressive ideas on education are still relevant today, particularly at Pine Point. Dewey points to education as a process involving engagement, experience, adaptation, and reflection all within a social sphere where learning and growth are generated by interdependent relationships. The teachers at Pine Point are committed to creating just that kind of environment where learning is active, participatory, and inclusive. Lately, many of you have asked what you can do to help the School. The faculty have the drive and creativity to implement a relevant curriculum that is both rigorous and engaging; they now need your support to gather the necessary resources to facilitate that kind of instruction. In addition, I hope you can support their professional development. Attending conferences to understand recent developments in research and best practice provides the inspiring experiences that fuel their enthusiasm and promotes collaboration, which benefits all of our students. I would like to thank our sponsors for their generosity and the Gala Committee for their dedication throughout the year to bring us together for a common purpose – to celebrate our past and to contribute to our future. With great appreciation, Diana Owen Interim Head of School

RESERVED PARKING SPOT “I just need to run in for a minute to drop something off with Ms. Maureen.” How many times have you said that at drop-off, but there’s no place to park? For that person on the go, or for the ultimate school volunteer, we’re going to make your life a lot easier. Make a bid on your own private parking space in the front lot! The spot will be yours until June 30, 2015.

CUSTOM MADE 8 ½’ T-101 SAILING DINGHY Simple but elegant, the T-101 composite dinghy from Transfusion Boat Works Inc. is a smart solution to the dinghy question. This 8 ½’ rowing dinghy seats 2 peo-ple, rows easily and tows well, too. With a 5hp motor bracket off center, this din-ghy can be rowed or used with an auxiliary to serve as a tender.

The T-101 can also arrive in a sailing version. A daggerboard trunk under the re-movable middle seat is molded in and the mast step is as well. The 2 piece carbon mast has no shrouds for ease of rigging. A headstay comes with the jib option. Forty square-feet of mainsail with leech battens slides over the mast for easy rig-ging. A kick up rudder allows beachability. The T-101 draws only 4” of water with a 300lb maximum capacity for passengers. Built lighter to last longer and do more things well, the T-101 is a smart choice.

Specifications: LOA: 8’6” LWL: 7’0” Draft: 3”-3′ (centerboard) Display: 70 lbs ELEPHANT ENCOUNTER This one-of-a-kind offer allows you and five of your guests to experience a behind-the-scenes elephant encounter at Roger Williams Zoo. You’ll have an up-close meet and greet with Ginny, Kate, and Alice as their dedicated keepers teach you about these majestic creatures. Bring your camera as you feed the elephants! A current Pine Point parent, who recently experienced this encounter made possible by the Rhode Island Zoological Society, said, “I had the chance to do this with my boys when they were much younger, and it was incredible. It’s just about the cool-est, most moving experience I’ve had. I only wish I had waited until my kids were old enough to appreciate it even more.”

Value: $3,000 Sailing packages: main-maststep, thwart, mast boom sail jib-sail, headstay, rigging oars

PARADISE ON ST. JOHN Gather four other couples or put together a family reunion and enjoy one week in Reefside Villa, a five-bedroom home located on a lushly landscaped waterfront lot on Chocolate Hole Harbor in St. John. (The villa is on the same side of the harbor as its neighbors, Cliffside, Beach Music and Ciellodonna.) Reefside Villa sits on one acre and enjoys its own private sand beach. A private path leads to great snor-keling, swimming, and kayaking in the calm 82 degree waters of Chocolate Hole Harbor. Your view looks to the east-southeast with sailboats floating peacefully in the harbor. This is a sun lover’s villa with sun on your spacious pool deck most of the day. It’s an easy 5-minute drive into Cruz Bay, and the spa, restaurants and beach at the Westin Resort are a 10-minute walk or a 2-minute drive. The offer is for anytime between April 12 and December 12. PRIVATE CRUISE ABOARD APHRODITE Enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime, two-hour cruise aboard the classic yacht Aphrodite for 12 guests. Aphrodite was secretly built in 1937 for John “Jock” Hay Whitney to commute and to race his brother-in-law to their Wall Street offices. She has host-ed President Roosevelt, Shirley Temple, Hollywood elite, and dignitaries through-out her life. She has been lovingly restored to her previous splendor. You and your guests will board from Watch Hill and tour Fishers Island Sound. Choose from either cocktails and hors d’oeuvres or a luncheon cruise. PINE POINT’S FINEST FACULTY CHEFS INVITE YOU TO DINNER AT THE LODGE AT MOOSE LANDING Enjoy a marvelous meal for 12 complete with wine hosted by Dr. Blum, Mrs. Dol-phin, Ms. Iacoi, Ms. Raftery, Mrs. Scott, and Mr. and Mrs. Toscano. They’re excit-ed to offer this experience at The Lodge at Moose Landing (which also serves as the Dolphin family’s residence) or at your home. (As Mrs. Scott put it, they’ll be putting their 173 years of Pine Point teaching to good use on behalf of the School!) Restaurateur Angela Kanabis ’87 has graciously offered a case of Sou-verain cabernet sauvignon (2011) and a case of Souverain chardonnay (2011) to accompany the meal!
