manage a social venture to achieve a desired social change.

The aim of social entrepreneurship is to further increase social, cultural, and environmental goals.

Who is he?Muhammad Yunus is a Social Entrepreneur,

Bangladeshi banker, economist and Nobel Peace Prize recipient.

He was a professor of economics where he developed the concepts of microcredit and microfinance.

In 2006 Yunus and Grameen received the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to create economic and social development from below. Yunus himself has received several other national and international honors.

InspirationThey interviewed a woman from a poor village who

made bamboo stools, and learnt that she had to borrow the equivalent of 15p to buy raw bamboo for each stool made.

After repaying the middleman, sometimes at rates as high as 10% a week, she was left with a penny profit margin.

She would have been able to amass an economic cushion and raise herself above subsistence level if he had borrowed at a more advantageous rates.

The start of Micro-LoansRealizing that there must be something

terribly wrong with the economics he was teaching, Yunus took matters into his own hands. He found that it was possible with this tiny amount not only to help them survive, but also to create the spark of personal initiative and enterprise necessary to pull themselves out of poverty. Yunus then carried on giving out 'micro-loans‘.

What are Micro-LoansExtension of small loans to let them to have

at least a shelter, food to ease their hunger, and water to ease their thirst.

His strive towards successIn 1983 , he formed the Grameen Bank,

founded on principles of trust and solidarity. In Bangladesh today, Grameen has 2,564

branches, with 19,800 staff serving 8.29 million borrowers in 81,367 villages. Grameen collects an average of $1.5 million in weekly installments and over 97% of the loans are paid back .

Grameen methods are applied in projects in 58 countries, including the US, Canada, France, The Netherlands and Norway.

Our thoughts...We think that he is a big help to society as he

has helped thousands of people who are trapped in “Poverty” to get out of it .

He is a hero .Although he had ups and downs in the

process of helping people but he still pull it off in the end as he strived, work hard and persevere for this success. “Pain and hard work =SUCCESS”
