Social Report 2015 98

THE FUTURE, A REFLECTION:At the time we have another year publication of our Social Report, we would like to take this opportunity to encourage some joined-up reflection upon the time we now live. We, in Brazil, are going through hard times, particularly in Manaus where the local Economy is utterly dependent upon its Free Zone Industrial Model.

Every single day, in horror, we watch the news on all Brazilian TV channels. All the time a long list of wrongdoings, mainly from the governmental sector, is made public. Just to name a few:

Petrobras (State-owned Oil Company) Scandal Mensalão (a system of huge bribes to Congressmen) Rampant and widespreadcorruption inside the police force and renowned construction companies Violence in large scale, be it in a traffic jam, football games, women being murdered, elderly people being killed and racial prejudice among so many other kinds of violence perpetration and corruption charges. When we try to turn up the reasons for those wrongdoings, we discover that all of them have something in common. We realize that they are all displays of profound ignorance and lack of education. For us corruption is undoubtedly one of the greatest demonstrations that ignorance and lack of education can spark. The conclusion is clear; Education is the only solution if we want to evolve as people and as a country.

If we take the least corrupt countries in the world as an example, not coincidentally we see that they are the most developed countries with the best quality of life on earth. Denmark, Sweden and Norway are examples of what good education can provide in terms of future opportunities for the youth.

All of us Copag employees, especially the ones who are parents, have responsibility for our children’s, grandchildren’s, and our planet’s future.

We cannot accept any level of ignorance and any lack of education. Corruption starts with small lack-of-Education acts.Education is synonymous with quality of life and development of new opportunities.

It is our obligation and responsibility to practice EDUCATION.Finally, we would like to thank all our employees, former employees, suppliers, customers and friends for another year of work and dedication.

We continue to believe in Brazil. Let’s move on.

Brás, São Paulo, it began manufacturing COPAG playing cards.

In 1990, the Company presented the regional government development agencies a project to modernize itself, so it made huge investments in machinery and equipment, therefore increasing the capacity and productivity of its plant.

In 1985, during the modernization and expansion of the industrial park, COPAG transferred its industrial facilities and technological expertise to the city of Manaus, attracted by tax incentives existing in the region, as a way to fight unfair competition, and thus remain competitive. To reach that goal, the company acquired the Crown (Indústria de Papéis da Amazônia) project, and changed its name to COPAG DA AMAZÔNIA S/A.

At first it was based in a rented warehouse on Constantino Nery Avenue, while awaiting the construction of the factory building in the Industrial Park of Manaus - PIM, which took a short time, and in early June 1987 it began to operate in its own modern
