Lines of longitude They go vertically around the Earth from the North Pole to the South Pole.

Lines of latitude They go horizontally around the Earth.

Equator It is one latitude line. It divides the Earth into the Northern and the Southern Hemisphere.

Maps show the Earth as flat.

PHYSICAL MAPS A physical map shows landforms. Different colours show different areas of elevation. For example:

- Brown represents high mountains.

- Orange represents plateaux.

- Green represents valleys or plains.
