Presentation: Training Today's Plastic Manufacturing Workforce
Gary will talk about the missing parts of indoctrination and training, which creates enthusiasm andinterest in plastic processing. To do that, he will have to discuss his travels and his observations of themany plants he has visited in thirty-four years. He did say that there were a lot of common elements ineach plant he visited that indicated a lack of proper indoctrination. He will have a question and answerperiod at the conclusion.
About the presenter - Gary Melanson PolyOne Technical Engineer
Gary accumulated twenty-five years of molding experience with Revcor Molded Products, which designsand manufactures engineered air moving systems. He was involved with structural design, airflow, noise, vibration and stresses in fans and airflow systems for stationary and mobile applications. Anyonewho has molded fan blades knows the difficulty of keeping all those considerations in balance, blade toblade. He progressed to Plant Manager for Revcor.
Gary served as Director of Operations for Nolato Plastics in Texas, molding for Nokia and Ericsson, twoScandinavian companies. While doing that, he built new facilities for Nolato, requiring many Europeantrips to determine plant layout and construction, quality standards, and product design and development.Earlier, he did the same for Revcor, so he is well-qualified in plant layout, standards, and trainingmethods. He has also traveled extensively in Mexico.
For the past six years, he has served PolyOne as a Technical Engineer, supporting eight states andMexico. In his thirty-four years of experience, he has visited hundreds of plants, which has provided theinsights he will share with us concerning training of molders and the lack of training in certain areaswhich are necessary for success in our field.

Not wanting to be complacent, I am looking to buildon this success with some of the following items:1) A golfing event in May raising more money forPSU scholarships with increased attendance andmore fun for the golfers2) New programs with pertinent information to in-crease our meeting attendance3) Celebration of our new Honored Service Mem-ber4) Adapting, flexing and growing to exceed ourmember expectations
This is your society and I look forward to your par-ticipation in it, so that we can continue onto an evenmore successful year.
I hope to see you all at our February 16 meetingwith Gary Melanson from PolyOne talking aboutproper indoctrination of new employees in the plas-tic industry. Of course while you are there you cannetwork with associates, old and new friends andhave fun and enjoy yourself.

Christmas Party - December 2005The annual Christmas Party was enjoyed this year by (21) attendees from eight different companies.
The party was arranged again this year by Javier Najera, and was held at the new Café Sevilla, an
upscale Spanish / Mediterranean restaurant on Southwest Boulevard in downtown Kansas City.
All ladies received hand-made, original vintage broaches from LuLu's Vintage Clothing in Parkville,
MO.
Additional Christmas gifts in the form of "gift cards" to establishments such as Barnes & Noble were
received by all couples. We invite all SPE members to attend with us next year to enjoy this festive
evening at an equally as exciting restaurant.
