INDIA THAT IS BHARAT The name, Bharat, is used for the Republic of India.

In the preamble to our Constitution, our founding fathers used the term ‘ INDIA THAT IS BHARAT’.

The term “INDIA THAT IS BHARAT” is described in the first sentence of the Indian Constitution.

As India’s official name is Bharat this name is accorded equal primacy as the word India in the Constitution

Contd.. The name India may refer to either the region of Greater India or to the contemporary Republic of India located therein.

The name is derived from the name of the Indus, or Sindhu River.

The Republic of India has two principal short names, India and Bharat.

The first article of the Constitution of India states that “ India, that is Bharat, shall be a union of states, “implicitly codifying India and Bharat as equally official short names for the Republic of India.

In Sanskrit, ‘Bha’ means Light and Knowledge while ‘rata’ means Devoted. Bharat means “devoted to Light and Knowledge.”

The name “ Bharat” reveals the quest of knowledge and the spiritual/ scientific prosperity of this country.

India is a land of diversity in race, region, caste, language, mate, landform, flora and fauna and so on. From ancient time till day India has repaintained this diversity from very ancient time.

Rightly this land has been termed as "the epitome of the world."

Heritage means what we inherit from our ancestors and from our past. The heritage of India is the result of developments in the social, economic, cultural and political life of Indian people over a period of thousands of years. The land and people are the two components of this heritage.

The Culture of India refers to the way of life of the people of India. India’s languages, dances, music, architecture, food and customs differ from place to place within the Country. Many elements of India’s diverse cultures such as religion, yoga, festival and Indian Cuisine has a profound impact across the world.
