North America:
A continent with great potential
• The amount of potential solar energy available in North America is limitless when compared to Germany, the world’s leader in solar energy installations.

Quality is what drives us…. because it leads to proven reliability
Only the BEST goes in, to get the BEST out
• Stringent new material qualifications
• Over 80 backsheets and EVA were tested
and only 8 met SolarWorld’s standards
• Every component we use must meet at least
3 times IEC requirements
• Frequent supplier audits
Only 8 out of 80 passed
3 times IEC Standards
The SolarWorld Quality Standard
Rigorous Testing
• Mechanical load test are applied 1.2 million times using wind and snow
test loads more than double that required by IEC standards
• A load of up to one metric ton is used for the inclined plan test to simulate
real world installations
• In our climate chamber test, we perform the temperature shock test for
9,125 cycles vs. IEC standard of only 200 cycles.

Efficiency vs. Energy Yield
Energy yield, not efficiency alone, is what matters.
Definition:
Efficiency values published by module manufacturers are defined as the nominal power of the module divided by the physical area of the module at Standard Test Conditions.
Efficiency vs. Energy Yield
(cont’d)
When designing a module, it’s important to consider the
placement and spacing of the cells relative to each other and the
frame. Crowding cells together and up against the frame can
reduce the overall energy output of the module.
Frame Change
GOAL: A global product for all markets
Version 2.5 60 Cell
Version 2.0 60 Cell
Previous
Version 3.0 72 cell
New Frame!!!
Version 4.0
This frame will replace the current frames used on 60-cell and 72-cell modules and has integrated new features based on customer feedback. The frame transition should be completed at all production sites by mid-Q2 2015. We will also Standardize on Amphenol H4 connectors (MC-type)
New Frame features
The frame features a new scalloped design which reduces the impact of scratches on the frame and integrated drainage from the front side of the module that provides for faster draining of water.
