Responsorial Psalm Psalm 16

Sequence (Sung by Schola)

Gospel Acclamation

Lo, new signs of sanctity, Deserving praise in high degree, Wonderful and fair to see, In Francis now behold! To the newly gathered band, Francis gives the King’s command, And guided by his mighty hand, The New Law does unfold. Before the world’s astonished view Arise the life and Order new Whose holy rules again renew The Evangelic state. Francis to Christ’s law conforms, The life monastic he reforms And all the apostolic norms He keeps inviolate.

We pray you, by the cross’s sign Marked on your flesh, whereby ‘twas yours The world, the flesh, all things malign, To conquer gloriously: O Francis, take us to your care, Protect us here from every snare, That we your great reward may share In heaven eternally. O holy Francis, Father sweet, Devoutly we your aid entreat. May we and all your children meet, Crowned victors in the strife. In virtue’s path our footsteps train And guide us where the saints now reign, That we, your children, may attain The joys of endless life. Amen. Alleluia.

Offertory Motet Prayer of St. Francis (Sung by Choir) Lord, make us instruments of thy peace, Where there is hatred, let us sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where discord, union; Where there is doubt, sow faith; Where there is despair, where there is darkness, sow hope and light; Where there is sadness, sow joy! For thy mercy, and thy truth’s sake. Amen. Setting by David A. Gerig

FRANCIS, NOW ADORNED IN GLORY Melody: Ode to Joy

Francis, now adorned in glory, friars minor honor you.

In your life we see the life of Christ, Redeemer crucified. We acclaim, our father’s fame, for all in heaven sing his praise;

We rejoice and sing in union with their voices glorified.

Taken up from earth to heaven, all his works reveal his life. Francis lives on high forever; Christ has graced him endlessly.

God of everlasting kindness, pray’rful hearts we offer you For this man adorned and honored shares your glory radiantly.

Many follow; many join with him who traveled holy lands. Francis took the Gospel message as a light that dazzled all.

Francis bears the wounds of Jesus in his hands, his feet, his side. Daylight breaks and night recedes: a new star shatters earthly pall.
