9WI presents

the three states of matter

Page 2: Solid liquidgas 9wi

State of Matter…

1. Solids eg.metal ( Atoms are packed so tightly that they will hold their shape but they will turn to liquid if they are exposed to heat)

2. Liquid eg. water ( atoms are packed not so tightly as solids therefore if you put them in moulds eg. Glass, they will easily take on its shape. But liqid can turn into gas if it is exposed to heat.)

3. Gas ( atoms packed so loosely that they will disperse in the nearby air but if it is confined in a small place and exposed to heat, it will turn into liquid.)

I like this image because it is clear and straight foreward. The image shows the three states of matter in their atom forms (microscophic forms). Furthur information can be added in more detail in picture.

This image shows that solid, liquid and gas molecules coming apart when boiling hot steam attacks the molecules. I like the image because it shows how the molecules separate when boiling hot water has steam coming out of it.

State of matter

Solids, liquids and gas's all have something in common atoms. Atoms are the smallest particle known to man that can survive on there own. All the atoms in a solid move around very slowly and tight together like holding hands. Then when the atoms turn into a liquid it starts to jog around and break away from the others. But when the temperature really heats up the atoms start sprinting around like crazy.

Solid, Liquid, and Gas

I like this image because it shows the three different forms of the atoms and it shows that the atoms are

changing from liquid, solid and gas. It shows the scientific words when liquid changes into solid

(solidification), solid to gas(sublimation), and gas to liquid (condensation) etc. I think this image could have shown how the atoms react in these forms as shown

on the image on the right.

Solid liquid gas

I like this picture because it’s a good example of solid liquid and gas.

Solid Liquid Gas

This Photo Shows A solid a Liquid And A gas The solid is a rock liquid is milk and

gas a cloud there are many more of these solids liquids and gases but I've

only shown you 1 example

Page 8: Solid liquidgas 9wi

Solid liquid gas

This picture shows how solid to liquid to gas. I like this image because it shows how a solid turns into a liquid and then to a gas. When the atoms are all pushed together its a solid. When the atoms are close together its a liquid and when its a gas, the atoms are spread out. These change because of the heat or the change of temperature.

Solid Liquid Gas

SOLID Solid is one of the Three classical statesOf matter. A solid is firm And a stable shape.

LiquidLiquid is a form ofMatter with a definiteVolume but no fixedShape.

Gas

Gas is a airlike fluidSubstance whichExpands freely to fill Any space available,

The solid form of water is frozen ice the liquid form is water and the gas form is water vapour

Solid,Liquid,

Gas

I like this image because it shows the changes from liquid to gas (vaporization), gas to liquid (Condensation), gas to solid

(Deposition), solid to gas (Sublimation), solid to liquid (Fusion-melting), and Liquid to solid

(Freezing). Solids, liquids and gases are what’s called the three states of matter. They either change to a chemical change or a physical change.

..: Solid, Liquid, Gas :..

This diagram presents ice (solid) changing into water (liquid) then finally, into a gas (steam) because of the heat that has effected the first product (ice) changing it twice.

I quite like this image because it clearly shows the three forms that atoms may become when effected by heat or frozen. It also presents what stages the atoms go through and

proves that a solid may not instantly change to a gas.It could be explained on the image how the atoms appear when transformed into each form

(Example: Atoms appear closer together when a solid and far apart/randomly scattered when a gas.) this would give a more detailed explanation of the process of atoms and extend knowledge. The diagram may also be labelled to help an inexperienced scientist completely

understand.I have provided a second diagram on the right side/above that contains this information.

Ice melts into water and water evaporates into steam when you boil

it

Page 16: Solid liquidgas 9wi

Solid Liquid and gas

The solid in this picture is the ground around the hole. The gas is the smoke from the liquid. The liquid

is boiling water just below the hole.

Page 17: Solid liquidgas 9wi

Solid liquid gas

This photo shows three cups, on the far left, an ice block (solid), the middle (liquid) and the right a cup with gas. I like this photo because it clearly shows three forms of matter. If you freeze matter, (water) you get matter in the form of a solid, ice. Then if you heat it up above 0 degrees Celsius and below 100 degrees Celsius, you get liquid. Then if you heat it up above 100 degrees Celsius, water starts to boil, then evaporate, its gas form.

Page 18: Solid liquidgas 9wi

SOLID,LIQUID,GAS

The diagram at the top basically explains everything. The ice is solid even though it was formed by water it is not a liquid as it is a huge block. The water is being

frozen and makes it thick and solid. You can tell if a substance is a solid, liquid or gas by looking at it you can say that ice cube is a solid because the water or any type of liquid in it doesn’t flow.

The liquid is when the ice cube melts. It is a liquid because the liquid flows and it is not thick or dense. The atoms and molecules in it loosened up a bit from how it was before in solid and created a liquid by loosing the atoms

and molecules a bit.The gas was a solid and a liquid first but not anymore as the atoms and molecules loosened up the this

substance became a gas. If you want to know if a substance if gas then see if the substance flows and is not tightened up all together (which is solid).

Page 19: Solid liquidgas 9wi

This is a diagram showing how solids get from solids to gas. When it is a solid it is hard, and when all the Atoms split it can turn into liquid because of the heat and then they will split, and then lastly it turns into gas because of the heat. I like this diagram because it shows us how a solid turns into a liquid and then into gas. It is helpful because it specifically shows us how solids turn into liquid then to gas in a easy way. Further information should be added because some people may not get what the diagram shows so In my own opinion I think that they should show what atoms are because newbies may not now what atoms are and if they put atoms in the diagram they can learn and have a clear understanding of this diagram.
