2

Alone sat Solomon a snail in his prime,

but he wanted to go farther then he could with his slime.

3

He longed for adventure, He longed for the sea. He’d never be happy

stuck at home in a tree.

4

So he searched for a ship in those branches so green, then he spotted his vessel, the best leaf he’d seen.

5

Now to you and me it was only a leaf.

To Solomon, it was his ship. He was master and chief.

6

He rigged up his leaf and set sail in May. The water was blue

but the sky was quite grey.

7

When Solomon set sail, he came to a gale.

His leaf boat was sinking. So he started to bail.

8

In that gloomy old storm he started to sink.

Both snail and leaf boat going down in the drink.

9

When out on the skyline he saw a great hump. It was not a rock…

and it was not a stump.

10

The hump it was moving

indeed it could swim. Then Solomon realized it was coming for him!

11

Solomon stood waiting.

He clung to the rail. When he saw it up closer it was a big purple whale!

12

Solomon the snail was afraid of the whale, so much bigger than he, so much greater a tail.

13

In his place on his boat things looked quite grim. But in spite of his fear,

Solomon called out to him.

14

“Hello!” said the whale, as he squinted to see. The snails little boat,

that he pulled off the tree.

15

“Oh please Mr. Whale there’s so much I would be

if only my ship were not a leaf you see.”

16

“Sorry to say Your plan was quite slack.

Come on little snail climb up on my back.”

17

So Solomon the snail despite his great fear,

abandoned his leaf for the giant whale rear.

18

So he sailed way up high, on the purple whales hip. The great purple whale,

was Solomon’s ship.

19

So they sailed far and wide, through gale and through sun.

They went many places, and both had great fun.

20

They sailed around the world and came back to the tree,

where Solomon Snail set sail from you see.

21

So a big purple whale and a snail became friends, for the rest of their lives,

and our story ends.
