The Challenge: Need to Easily Secure and Manage Newly Acquired iPads Headquartered in London, Ontario, TEAM Truck Centres (TEAM Truck) has been a regional full-service dealer of new and used heavy- and medium-duty trucks of all shapes and sizes for the past 35 years. The company provides services and parts from four locations in southwestern Ontario, Canada, to customers who operate truck fleets 24 hours a day, seven days a week, across North America. As a result, TEAM Truck works with several OEMs to be able to provide customers with the best trucks, parts and related equipment for their needs.

When one of its OEMs, Freightliner, was strongly urging the sales team to use its iPad application for inventory and ordering, TEAM Truck realized it was lacking a viable way to secure the new iPads. Beyond laptops equipped with anti-virus software, TEAM Truck had never allowed mobile devices to connect to its network in the past. “We had 12 iPads sitting around the office for three months,” said Joe Harp, Manager of Information Services. “I knew that we wouldn’t be able to secure them without a mobile device

management solution, but all of the options I came across online seemed complicated to deploy and complex to use.”

The Solution: Rapid Deployment of MaaS360 Mobile Device Management in Only One DayJoe’s online search eventually led him to MaaS360. He was immediately impressed by the solution’s capabilities to quickly enroll and secure the iPads through an easy-to-use console. In addition, the low cost of investment and short implementation time made MaaS360 an ideal match for their project scope and budget.

After contacting Fiberlink, Joe worked closely with a MaaS360 sales manager who fully explained the solution’s capabilities, answered all questions relevant to TEAM Truck’s expected usage and helped him to begin deployment at once.

“With the help of Lucas [the Fiberlink sales manager] and MaaS360 Support, it was easy for us to get up and running in only one day. The MaaS360 interface is simple and uncomplicated, and the support team was able to immediately address any questions we had.”

Joe and his team are also using MaaS360 Mobile Application Management to manage, push and track the Freightliner mobile application, and to push other pertinent apps from the iTunes store.

The Benefits: Real-Time Device and Application Visibility, with Time Savings for ITToday, MaaS360’s web-based management console provides TEAM Truck with complete control over and visibility into the sales team’s iPads. New iPads can be enrolled in only 10 minutes; Joe and his team can track software downloads and iPad usage in real time.

“With MaaS360, the process of making any policy or configuration changes is extremely fast and simple. After the initial enrollment, we decided to allow the sales reps to check email on their iPads. To make the change, we just logged into the MaaS360 console, enabled email and instantly pushed out the capability to all users. We didn’t have to waste our time driving from office to office, or the sales reps’ time coming into the corporate office when they should be busy closing sales.”

iPad visibility and automated security is critical for TEAM Truck, as the company’s small IT department does not have an extra minute to spend on manually enforcing corporate policies or addressing lost devices. With MaaS360, IT has the ability to locate lost iPads and remotely wipe their applications and data from a central console, ultimately mitigating the risk of exposing confidential corporate, customer and partner information.

With MaaS360’s location-based policy management features, TEAM Truck is able to restrict personal application usage. At the same time, MaaS360 Application Management ensures that the IT department is immediately notified when employees remove any mandatory applications. Joe and his team can then contact the individuals and push the applications for reinstallation or elect to automate the entire reinstallation process through MaaS360.

Finally, MaaS360 helps IT to track and encourage user adoption. As a small business with many longtime employees, TEAM Truck has encountered resistance to the new iPads. “One of the unexpected benefits of MaaS360’s tracking capabilities is knowing whether the sales reps are bringing their iPads to work or even powering them on. If the general manager receives complaints

from a rep that his iPad is not set up properly or that he is having a difficult time working with the device, we can just look at a MaaS360 Mobility Intelligence report to see if that individual has even attempted to use the iPad or if it’s been sitting at home for the past week. We can then work together to address any challenges to adoption.”

Up Next: Secure Document SharingWhile all of the company’s iPads are currently secured and managed, TEAM Truck has just scratched the surface of what’s achievable with MaaS360. At present, the company sends a daily sales summary via email. With MaaS360’s secure document sharing module, management would be able to automatically push out the sales update, while setting permission controls for who is able to view, print or email the report.
